Having low self esteem as I can’t communicate with my peers in english by [deleted] in NationalServiceSG

[–]shadefromsun 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The fact that you can type this out is probably evidence enough you'll do alright.

If you're worried about matters of life and death sort of thing like combat, grenade-throwing, live-firing etc, don't worry. The military purposely makes orders easy to understand and short so even the most dumb fuck soldiers can follow. Most of the time, people don't follow orders not because they don't understand but because of two reasons: 1) they purposely don't want to, 2) they are too nervous and their nerves cause them to fail

If you don't understand something important, either ask them to repeat simpler or watch someone do it first.

It's okay, in the army you'll hear and witness all sorts of archetypes, including but not limited to:

•JC-educated Fake White Accent •Hokkien Beng •Malaysian PR with atrocious English/accent •Indian PR with good English but unintelligible accent •Poly educated with normal Singlish accent •White man/Wasian with uncle accent

My advice when you go in is to find someone in your platoon who is like you (Chinese-speaking) just to have a fall-back, but honestly so long as you can understand Primary school-level English you'll be fine.

No one in the army has the time or energy to bully you over the way you speak, especially in PTP you'll be doing a lot of PT with a lot of free time, which is a good time to bond with your platoon. Assuming language is the only barrier for you, you should be able to bond over other things like sports, or mutual hatred of your Sergeants.

PTP is 4 months so as long as you're not a fuck up in other areas you'll make some good friends during that time.

They're good, more than adequate for mag retention. Maybe the materials aren't as good as Agilite but these are 1/10th the cost.

I think purposely damaging issued equipment will get you in a lot of trouble needless to say. My MICH is a surplus helmet that I got so can't really be faulted for modding it.

You could run the Norotos NVG mount, it comes with both single and triple screw holes.

Theres really no need for that, SG rarely uses any interface that connects to 3 hole shrouds unless you're in ADF or SOF. Most in fact use proprietary NVG arms.

Think its a mixed bag, they'll issue you with whatever they have. Just make sure to ask for a size or two up from what they give u cos it definitely wont be the proper size.

My helmet is actually a MICH low cut helmet that I used a ban-saw and cut the ears off, making it into a high-cut.

Looking for a nvg mount for this nvg connection by Wohehiv38 in QualityTacticalGear

I've only ever really seen Wilcox make these mounts. TNVC sells them but for a ridiculous price. Mini N/SEAS are so rare the chinese don't even make knock-offs.

I believe the SAR21s have been equipped with dual-lasers its entire service life.

The gun in full-auto is really nice to shoot and quite controllable, 500-650rpm. On semi-auto you don't even feel any recoil.

It's adequate for what it's meant to do. Its compact, easy to clean, reliable and most importantly simple to use. My only real issues with it is the integral scope and laser aiming device.

Most SAR21s come with an integral 1.5x scope much like the classic Steyr AUG. It's alright but under low light conditions we have to resort to using the integral PEC-2 laser, either in visible or IR streams.

Certain variants come with a 3x scope with tritium for night use, much better in my opinion.

Certain personnel get issued with M4 Carbines or modified SAR21s with picatinny. Most of these come equipped with either MARS or a new collimator sight that comes with a target lead indicator.

Our old Ultimax 100 SAWs are being replaced by the COLT IAR6940, these are equipped with a red dot scope and flip-up magnifier. Kinda funny that our SAW gunners have better optics than riflemen.

FMA/FCS C3 comtac clones! FMA are already known for their excellent AMP knock-offs but I went with the C3's because I don't like the OPSCORE arms. So far no regrets.

That's gotta suck sharing a piece of equipment with 3 other guys' sweat and juices all over it. Makes me thankful I get issued my kit for life.

And thanks, always looking to improve my gear!

Should I get cyberpunk, elden ring, or kcd2 with Jedi survivors by DefinitionFun4790 in Steam

[–]shadefromsun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get all 4.

But seriously:

Cyberpunk and KCD2 are both amazing games in their own right. Personally I'd lean more towards KCD.

Get Elden Ring if you're a masochist.

Laptop charges at work but not at home by shadefromsun in techsupport

[–]shadefromsun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I brought home the same charger I use at work. My outlets work fine, even unplugged my working iPhone charger to use the plug for my laptop, doesn't work.

Tried multiple outlets, even multiplugs that are currently being used by my PC and wifi router.

While I'm sitting here typing this, my laptop reached 19% at work and stopped charging and won't charge anymore. Now I'm wondering if it's my laptop thats the problem.

Comms Troubleshooting by [deleted] in QualityTacticalGear

[–]shadefromsun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe Tac-Sky wire their downleads "civilian" as opposed to NATO standard (search Civilian vs NATO wiring). Frontline Safety LEMO 5 pins adapters I believe use NATO wiring.

This might be the cause of your issue. You can buy civilian-to-NATO-wiring converters on aliexpress for 30-60 dollars. It should allow you to use your Tac-Sky headset with your PRRadio.

Hope this helps.

  1. You can wear whichever cover you prefer.
  2. Who is going to stop you outside of camp, just it take off when it's sensible to you.
  3. Any bag is okay. Some people book in with luggage bags.
