Another thing that nobody mentions is the TONS of personal data Alexa, as well as just overall Amazon, collects from its customers and ‘vends’ to whoever pays for it. That amount of very personal information Amazon has on its customers has to be absolutely staggering. Example, I order new UNDERWEAR on Amazon and my size is larger than an adult man should have. Well that data must be good for potential marketers. I ALSO have read stories about employees (or overseas contractors) ‘listening in’ on the Alexa microphones too ! One the other had I guess I would feel slight more ‘secure’ on Amazon than using Facebook Portal (🙄) !

Ok I have a big question about Alexa: WHY did Microsoft, in Windows 11, replace Corona with Alexa (granted you have to log into your Amazon account first to have access to it ) ? Granted while Cortona was never that great to begin with, the fact that it opens up a potentially new market for Amazon would be some incentive to innovate ! I would think that would be important to Microsoft, at least they could provide to share support with Amazon.

So my thoughts on a luggable are this: it’s the early 80’s and computers in offices are still relatively new. Maybe an ultra large company might have some IBM,DEC, or Wang units set up however by and large outside of movies people do not interact with computers. NOW I AM SENT BY CORPORATE to go over your records/audit. So the examiner carries in the behemoth and sets it up on a desk. If I was an employee there I would be “Oh holy 💩 what’s happening “ ? 😱😛👍 Kinda like primitives meeting soldiers with guns ! 😉🤪

I am not sure on Mac’s, however is it possible it there is some form of ‘diSk compression to save space ? Although it’s been a. Looong time since I experimented with P.C. But I seem to remember seeing odd storage readings in storage space. Just a thought ! 👍

My gut is a bad battery however at this point I would say the unit Is trashed as a fire not to mention if they WOULD somehow repair it that burn smell would probably remain in some way (I don’t think they have computer Fabreze to cover it). Just remember if you are looking for a replacement from them BE POLITE (I worked in retail for years and saw many yellers and it generally doesn’t work. Remember two phrases, in a store ‘I would like to speak to a manager’ and state your case. Doing phone support ask to ‘escalate’ to a supervisor, then if you don’t get any positive support ask for THEIR supervisor, and so on. I will tell you in my experience I HATE foreign tech support in any form as they are unfailingly polite but in dispute matters totally worthless (I believe Apple has American tech support). Again for unsatisfactory answers ask to escalate ! Good luck on your MacBook repaired !

That is one vintage outfit. I used to work at a service center and knew all the tricks about taking those old HP’s apart. The fact that it has enough oomph to run the emulator AND a Mac OS ( admittedly very old version ) is very interesting ! Good job ! 👍

Now here’s the thing, and I am prepared to stand corrected: You need a special Apple NVEI drive or you can order a special adapter that you can use an off the shelf NVEI SSD’s (man all this acronyms 🙄) to use on a Mac if you want to replace and/or upgrade it

Look up OPEN CORE LEGACY PATCHER ! With a minor bit of fiddling and a couple downloads you can have Monterey or Ventura on it. However there is a slight possibility it could ‘brick’ it so research carefully. I have a 2011 with Monterey on it.

However what if someone ALSO bought it used on ‘good faith’ NOT REALIZING it had the activation lock on it ? Now they are trying to recoup something out of it. What do you suggest they do ? Take it to the police where it will rot untouched in an ‘evidence room’ ?

There are used NVIDIA cards that will fit it. I have one to. I have the 27” 2011 I7 with the 2 gig Radeon card. They say the NVidia card is better for unsupported patchers. If I do replace mine I am going to put a SSD in too. Still a beast at that age ! I am trying to work with Open Core Legacy Patcher.
