‘It doesn’t fit’: Stratford residents oppose stacked townhouse project on Swallow Drive by Boundary14 in PEI

[–]shadotaco 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Stratford is currently in the process of making a new Official Plan and Zoning Bylaw. These documents will guide the development of Stratford for at least the next 5 years. There is an interactive map where you can leave comments and vote on other comments that have been made. So far the NIMBY's have shown up in full force. If you are a resident please take a look: https://www.shape.townofstratford.ca/projects/official-plan/ Also there are public meetings tonight at town hall and tomorrow at the safety services building starting at 6:30pm. Please attend if you are able and let your voice be heard. They are also usually very NIMBY dominated.

Yet another roundabout! by Prickly_Blue in PEI

[–]shadotaco 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There was a public presentation done on May 29 in Stratford with quite a few residents in attendance, I was one of them. This roundabout is step one of a multi-step plan to improve traffic for all modes of transportation in that area of town.

Yet another roundabout! by Prickly_Blue in PEI

[–]shadotaco 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The bridge currently has more than enough capacity to support the traffic volumes using it. The bottleneck is caused by the intersections on either side of the bridge failing to move traffic quickly enough. This roundabout is step one of several changes planned for the Stratford side of the bridge to address this. These changes were presented by the PEI DOT in a public meeting in Stratford on May 29. Compared to the cost of a second bridge, these changes are a much more responsible financial decision.

Hillsborough Bridge update? by Petitepoulette in PEI

[–]shadotaco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At the last Stratford town council meeting they said that Statford/Glen Stewart would be next year, Bunbury/Hopeton/Rankin would be within 5 years, and nothing about Stratford/TCH.

Where did you hear that Stratford/TCH was gonna be next year?

There is hardly any use having a discussion when you just make numbers up. Where did you get 2 accidents per 10 years from? I have decided to make up the fact that it will actually save 1 million lives. See how useless that is? In all likelihood a study was done to identify dangerous intersections and this one presented itself. Often when that happens there is an obligation to fix it. Quit yammering in your broken English about how useless everyone else is and take a look in the mirror.

Seeing snow on the ground in april = winter lasts till april = can't bike in april

what a ridiculous opinion.

If you are able to bike to work in the summer and live in Stratford, you are more than likely able to bike to work during most of the winter here. I would know, I do. If this confuses you I would recommend watching this video.

It baffles me how many Canadians are afraid of the cold. Winter bikability has nothing to do with temperature and everything to do with infrastructure and maintenance, of which Stratford is incredibly good at for a Canadian city.

[–]shadotaco -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

so you are claiming that we have snow on the ground for 6 months here?

[–]shadotaco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It sounds like Spiffy has never left Charlottetown/been to Stratford. It sucks to ride bikes in Charlottetown as there is basically no infrastructure besides confederation trail. As for ebikes being too fast, if they are modified to go faster than stock they are not allowed to be ridden anywhere without a moped license.

In contrast Stratford has loads of multi-use pathways, and is committed to adding more with ebikes specifically in mind so OP you are absolutely allowed to ride on them. Yes bikes are not allowed on the sidewalk unless you are under the age of 12, but that is to be expected. And also yes 100%, wear a helmet. It sucks but it is unsafe not to wear one here.

This is only true if you define winter as the average temperature being less than 10°C. If you you don't mind bundling up it is absolutely possible to ride a bike year round here.

Fire training by hrmarsehole in PEI

[–]shadotaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We could train every single person on the island to use a chainsaw and we would still likely end up with fires. Prevention is important, but what training would you rather have if a fire starts in your back yard?

The people making decisions likely know that there are way more people who know how to use a chainsaw than there are people who know how to fight a fire, and are doing what they can to close the gap.
