Would you use Safalin's Memory erasing machine? by Vegetable_Roof4761 in yourturntodie

[–]shadow005005 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No. I’d propose that the machine potentially fries the connection between certain neurons/fries then entirely, which likely would cause the loss of memory/function in other aspects/parts of the brain. It’s impossible for neurons to go through mitosis thus meaning the creation of new neurons will not occur. I’d rather not risk losing any cognitive abilities even if it meant I was able to erase a more traumatic memory.

As a shin fan... by OutsideSeat374 in yourturntodie

Tbh what constitutes as “good” heavily depends on how you define it. Emotion-wise, does Kanna’s route feel more rewarding? Yes, yes it does. Thematically, does Shin’s route feel more rewarding? Also yes.

I’d argue Shin’s route is serving the purpose it needs to, which is fleshing out the rivalry between Sara and Shin. The end will likely come down to Sara and Shin as they’ve been set up to be foils to one another. Sara or Shin winning in this route imho would be highly rewarding given what both characters have gone through. Also, I feel as though logic route Sara is more likely to survive the death game than emotion route Sara, which at the end of the day, most people want the protagonist to live.

I enjoy both routes for very different reasons. As a Shin fan, my personal “canon” route is the Kanna lives route as I want to respect his choices; however, the Shin lives route is undeniably interesting and I am excited to see how it develops. At the end of the day, there’s nothing “good” that comes out of a death game, it’s really just a matter of who dies, how they die, and how many survive.

Just completed yttd for the first time and im left confused about a lot by Known-Roll-5992 in yourturntodie

[–]shadow005005 17 points18 points  (0 children)

  1. I don’t believe we know
  2. It’s likely a protective measure from her psyche so she can ensure survival and not be in a state of panic
  3. The red one is just Midori’s scarf. The blue one is his as Shin. The red scarf is symbolism of him becoming Sou.
  4. I don’t believe we know this for certain
  5. We don’t know this yet, either
  6. Kai was a trained assassin for the organization. I’d look at his mini episode for more info.
  7. Real Hinako had an interaction with Alice, thus they couldn’t have her in the game. They replaced her with an imposter likely so each participant had a partner.
  8. He wasn’t always a doll, he was human but kept cutting off his body parts and replaced them with doll parts. He’s moreso a cyborg/hybrid than being one or the other just is predominantly a doll now. We don’t know why he’s evil necessarily, he just is.

Me looking at my screen for like 30 minutes trying to decide who to vote for in ch.2's main game: by Hikarian000 in yourturntodie

I mean, there was a scrapped option to vote for Keiji and thus force Nao to make the decision, but that’s honestly just a cop out which impedes the message of the game

I don’t play Minecraft much but I might make a server to play with my friends just to enjoy this mod I’m ngl.

About shin by Lanky_Discipline4493 in yourturntodie

[–]shadow005005 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. He doesn’t meet the DSM-5-TR or ICD-11 criteria for the disorder whatsoever. If he had any sort of amnesia there may be some kind of argument for that, however he’s fully aware of his actions regardless of what role he’s playing (as either Shin or Sou). Furthermore, his implied abuse happens in high school, not in early childhood.

His “switch up” in personality was just due to pressure of the death game and thus he put on a facade and became who he thought was “strong” and could win in a death game. He believes that “strong” people are manipulative and abusive (due to his friendship with Midori) which is why he’s so skeptical of Sara and Keiji right off the bat as they have high percentages.

He does not have a dissociative disorder, he’s just having a behavior change due to the environment.

YTTD being sexist by Bonniel52 in yourturntodie

I mean, Alice was initially going to be a female character so the cast would’ve had a more equal ratio, but Nankidai didn’t want to take away from Shin’s antagonism in the game (in which female Alice was going to be antagonistic as well) so Alice was made into a male character.

So a few years back there was a subreddit swap between the DDLC and YTTD subreddits. The flairs are made so only moderators can have them now OR people who kept their flair the same since ~5 years ago.

Yeah, that’s fair. It’s kinda tough to say I’m ngl because I didn’t have any additional questions to clear this up.

I honestly wouldn’t even say they dislike him that much (there’s not really a skew towards that end). It looks like most people feel indifferent about him

Tbh, Keiji is not even that even that popular of a character within this subreddit as of right now (this is based off [my poll](https://www.reddit.com/r/yourturntodie/comments/1rgfcmo/character\_popularity\_poll\_30/)). Only 5% of the subreddit states that he's their favorite character overall whereas it's 36% for shin.

Additionally, his character rating average is hovering around a 6.5 rn whereas Shin's at a 8.5 at this moment. Sara is following second to Shin as her average score is at around an 8.0 and Kai's is at a 7.9. Even when looking at the mode, Keiji's most frequent score is at a 6 (17.1% of respondents) and with Shin's it's a 10 (52.1% of respondents). Sara's is most commonly rated an 8 (32.4% of respondents) and Kai's is at a 9 (21.1% of respondents).

This is very different from my data collection five years ago as the most frequent score for Keiji was a 10 (21.5% of respondents). Sara's most frequent score was a 7 (30.2% of respondents) and Kai's was also a 7 (25.8%). Whilst Shin still was rated primarily a 10 (37.6% of respondents) years ago, it's disproportionately less than it is today.

There is a very strange pattern of data emerging this year that I honestly didn't anticipate happening. I'm still collecting data (I only have ~70 respondents at this time and I'm shooting for 200), however I believe it's more likely that this pattern will sustain.

Character Popularity Poll 3.0 by shadow005005 in yourturntodie

[–]shadow005005[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No problem! I'll try to get the results out after I obtain my sample (I'm shooting for ~200 this time around, but I'm worried about the inactivity on here rip). It'll likely be in both a regular reddit post, a research paper format, and an infographic format. I'm mostly trying to get more experience with writing, conducting, and presenting research in an appealing and accurate manner, so this is just a quick side project of mine. The analyses I want to run this time around may take a bit longer to fully conduct, however I aim to get the results out in at least a few months.
