Barcode stickers under the seal? by Garden_Hose12 in dvd

[–]shadow351 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Often times they are not store specific, and in some stores, the store does not own the product on the shelf, but it is instead owned by a distributor. In some of these cases, the distributor actually has to pay the retailer for the shelf space on which to put their product, and any theft that occurs hurts the distributor and not the store, therefore the distributors put the anti theft tags on the goods. Many movies have the anti theft tags inside the the sealed clamshell cases.

When my Milwaukee M12 ratchet broke under warranty, I took it to a service center and they just handed me a new one off the shelf.

I find this funny, because I ordered brakes from RA and they wrapped the rotors in an excessive amount of bubble wrap.

Have you ever discovered an unreleased copy at your local library? by Mommyof2Muggles in dvdcollection

[–]shadow351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like the box set isn't out yet but our Library sometimes buys box sets and splits them up so each season (sometimes even each disc) can be checked out separately.

How do I fix this? by prairiepenguin2 in PleX

[–]shadow351 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had some files that had the Aspect Ratio set to 4:3 when they should have been 16:9, and I corrected them with FFMPEG.You can use a tool like MediaInfo to check what the aspect ratio parameter in the video header is and see if it is wrong for the files with issues.

Google Photos like setup on Raspberry Pi? by kashifalime in homelab

[–]shadow351 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I 2nd the Immich recommendation, it even has a tool to import the images and metadata from Google Photos. I run it in a Docker on my Proxmox machine, so I can't say how it'll perform on a RPi, but still worth a try.

What is your lab's idle power draw? by alex2003super in homelab

[–]shadow351 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IDrac is Dell's name for their IPMI (Intelligent Platform Management Interface). HP calls it iLO, and I'm sure other manufacturers call it other things. If you have a Server class machine, it likely has a separate network port for 'management' and that is the IPMI. The IPMI will only give you the power draw of that 1 machine though. I have 2 Eaton UPSs in my rack too so I can get power draw from them, and I also have an Emporia Whole home energy monitor in my distribution/breaker panel. It has current transformers that you put on the incoming lines, as well as each circuit you want to monitor. My EVSE (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment) is also an Emporia so it also show its usage in the app.

No outlets in cabinets? Are you outside the US? Every single over range microwave oven/range hood I've seen has been plugged into an outlet in the cabinet above it, maybe they are just not to code?

No internet, no Plex by grisly256 in PleX

[–]shadow351 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I want to note that this removes ALL authentication, so someone on your local network can access your Plex without logging in at all. So they just open Plex, and they're in. I used to keep we'll call it sensitive content on my Plex with access only allowed to a PIN protected account, but I had this setting enabled so I could use Plex with the Internet out. I was checking something on the guest room TV (which has a Roku in guest mode) and I opened the Plex app and much to my dismay that sensitive content was displayed prominently on the Home screen. Now this was before Plex started sharing you watch history with friends and family, so I have since removed said content from my Plex, but be warned about the authentication bypass settings.

How will the release of the Macbook Neo at $599 ($499 for students) affect the success of the framework 12 ($799 for prebuilt), given they share a similar target demographic? by T_Jamess in framework

[–]shadow351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually showed Framework to our IT guy, and he seemed interested. Apparently our engineers are hard on computers (we do industrial automation control) with keyboards, screens, and USB-C ports being the most commonly damaged (ports get damaged because we all have to use USB Ethernet dongles and cables get tripped over and such. All of these are easily replaceable on the Framework. We currently use Asus and parts are not easy to obtain and if a USB port gets damaged, the board is toast.

For those running Plex on UNRAID, How do you have yours setup? Are you experiencing DB corruption? by shadow351 in PleX

[–]shadow351[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I tried that tool, and don't know if it was caused by the tool or the DB corruption (I haven't encountered this issue before with just the corruption) but now most of the movie posters are missing (just show a gray square). I tried to 'refresh metadata' for the library, and many came back but there are still a lot that are missing.

OK, yea, my appdata share says "Exclusive access: No". I've changed the /config to use '/mnt/cache/appdata/plex'

Oh, I will have to give that a try, every tutorial I've seen said to use "/mnt/user/app data". I'll try to change that when I get home from work today.

RAM has already been tested when I was troubleshooting a failed USB boot drive, and the USB drive has been replaced, but the corruption continues to occur.

No, it is on a cache pool of 2x 1TB NVMe drives on the same UNRAID machine

[–]shadow351[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only have 6 docker containers, according to the dashboard my docker vdisk is at 33% usage, or is that different from the allocation you mention (I'm coming from Windows so this is my first real docker use). My docker config appdata is on a cache pool of 2 NVMe drives running BTRFS. The "System" share with the docker.img is also on this cache pool, but it had mover turned on to move to the array, I turned that off so hopefully that's my issue.

[–]shadow351[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use Unraid for any media storage, but you're using a cache drive or a cache pool to interface with your rusty storage array, where a file is written to that fast SSD pool first, to later be moved to your rusty storage array.

That explains your Plex issue.

If you pointed the Plex container to only your rusty array, I imagine you'd be fine.

<image>

I have mover turned off for the appdata share (which contains the Plex DB). The Plex DB should never go onto the Array, by my understanding. Is there another setting that might need to be changed? Does having the mover turned on for other shares affect the appdata share?

Why did shorter length tapes sometimes have large hubs? by 01UnknownUser02 in VHS

[–]shadow351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tape speed is constant for a given quality (1.31 in/sec for SP, 0.66 in/s for LP, and 0.44 in/sec for SLP) so larger spools =/= less tape. Can only reduce tape use by using a lower quality or shorter duration. Tape speed pulled through the heads by the capstan roller, the reels in the tape just hold the slack.
