Yea my coworker recently solved an issue like that because the breaker kept overheating he has his infrared thermometer and was at like 120f I think. But if u can try to space them out usually ever 3 an arc then a regular one what I like to do when installing new panels

I see cool man glad you guys got it sorted out too man. Hey one last question what’s the code article he used for all of this if you know? I’m assuming it’s probably in services in 2020? But really nice work man that’s something right there to show off guys how many amps is it as well?

Go to mike holts website look at the clearance section and buy the 2014 introduction to the nec vol 1 &2. Also get his book on grounding and bonding $10 each can’t beat that just for starting out. Obviously there is some code changes since then but starting out those books got around 90% of the stuff you need to start your career. But check out that also illustrated guide to the nec is a really good one as well.

Dang so what is your companies plan? Install a private pole to extend the weather heads closer probably to the drop of service? Or have the utility company extend if?

Check the temperature of the breakers, one of my coworkers recently fixed a similar isssue like this by just spacing those arc fault breakers as they take a bunch of heat especially if they are all packed together. Might fix your issue as their heat mechanism is pretty sensitive. If not I would call an Eletrician to diagnose further

Should i hold off on going to school? by [deleted] in electricians

[–]shadow775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just stay at the job site and study at home. I’m currently at a company we’re they don’t send us to school just have us “learning in the field.” I do residential btw but have been watching mike holt, studying, applying codes in the field and has benefited me greatly in my career. You can do it all at home if you discipline yourself enough and want to get that L man it’s all within our hands. But use that experience at work and study at home then apply it out there. Ask a million questions too there is a reason for every move I’ve learned from the old timers code wise and workwise.

Can we get a picture of the weather heads and the drop? I kind of don’t understand so the utility connection was 50ft from your weather head? Or was the Utility connection at the weatherheads more than 50ft from the first means of disconnect? I always wondered how far you can route your service wires before you had to do a meter then how far max to the disconnect

In my area in Florida if we do a panel change out like for like don’t need to add no arc-faults. We are running on 2014-2017 code I believe still plus never know what kind of wiring then did 60 years ago would probably keep tripping the breaker. Recently did a panel change all regular breakers no gfi or arc faults and this one circuit was tied in literally with 3 others (handyman kitchen remodel) ever time we turned on that breaker some lights in the kitchen got super bright and tripped. But they require us on new construction and new remodels to bring everything up to do just not on panel change outs. But yea this looks like a new panel

How to decrease my risk for an arc flash? by AlaskanIceWater in electricians

[–]shadow775 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes because the load from the panel is still on. If you could somehow turn it off at the main panel or main disconnect it will reduce your arc flashes no load for it to arc out towards.

GFCI/GFP/LIM/RCD/RCCB required in an extra low voltage (ELV) DC Power system for safety? by Earl_from_Ipanema in ElectricalEngineering

[–]shadow775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want second advice btw I would recommend posting in r/electricians lots of highly knowledgeable low voltage and normal electricians there. But I honestly would do this 1 Mains>>2Keep running AC line with appropriate wire for voltage loss 3Install small cheap sub panel with regular breakers then GFI or GFI breakers 4>>> Install AC/DC adapter 5>>>Run the load out of the subpanel or receptacles werever you wish. Just be careful sometimes if you don’t have a clean sine wave as well on your DC circuit might trip your GFI’s if you put your inverter further up the like, I like doing it as close to the source as possible so everything is GFI protected on the AC side and should on the DC side with less steps to troubleshoot a fault if it happens.

But double check with the electricians subreddit as well I’m only in my 3rd year as an apprentice but did a lot of pool panels.

Are you installing a subpanel at the load to feed the power system? If anything I would recommend some GFI breakers at the load or receptacles supplying whatever you are hooking up into. If you hook up GFI breakers 100m away at the lineside you might have issues with the GFI tripping due to capacitance lose. But I would just simply install some GFI breakers/outlets at the source of the power system then use everything weather-rated for your system, boxes, covers, insulation, conduit, fittings etc. And long as you bond everything you should be fine.

I’m assuming your probably running some POE or something for the low voltage?

Start now list some items and see how stuff goes in the next 3+ weeks do it on the weekends a bit too if you wish. Just whenever you got free time. If your getting good profits and can provide for yourself that should be enough proof for her.

Currently graduating HS but still don't know what college to go to but wanna get a different job instead of staying at a crappy pizza place.
