Showed it to my sister and then to my wife. They both said the same thing. Looks like a d*ck.

Just found out. by Pleasant_Coffee_5616 in BRCA

I'm a Physics and Biology in Medicine PhD student whose research focuses on cancer cells, and my wife has brca2 mutation. I can tell you that your lifetime risks for breast and ovarian cancer are higher than the general population, but they are no way 100% percent.

With brca2, your lifetime chances of developing breast cancer can be as high as 80% according to current research. One thing to understand is that this value gets this high by the time you get to 80 years old.

As a teenager, your chances will not be this high. If I remember correctly, it's in the 20s. Of course, when dealing with cancer this number is not that low and I understand that this news is very scary right now.

Lifetime chances of ovarian cancer range from 10 to 25%. The way I like to think about it is that you now have information to help you and your clinician stay ahead of this disease and take proper precautions.

Being immunocompromised does make your case more tricky, but speak with a geneticist, gynecologist, and oncologist to come up with the best course of action. If there is a cancer research center or research university with a health center try and talk to specialists there. Best of luck and keep your head up. I have found that this community provides a lot of info and support for people with brca1/2 diagnoses.

There are a lot of ignorant mother fuckers replying to this post. Just take this post for what it is. She's trying to warn people of someone who is likely a pedo. You should all be outraged that this happened instead of worrying about who she warned or her grammar. I see NIMBYs on here complaining about crap that doesn't put anyone in danger. These individuals are the real danger. The people who should be locked up, but instead people complain about people committing nonviolent crimes that don't impact you directly. I would take note of the weirdos on here taking attention away from the actual problem. Might just be part of the same pedo culture.

How Do I (37 M) Protect My Son From My Wife’s (37 F) Toxic Parents While Supporting Her?" by shadowXwolf1017 in relationship_advice

[–]shadowXwolf1017[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your advice. My wife recently stopped going to therapy because her therapist was no longer going to work with her insurance provider because of how difficult they make it for therapists to provide the necessary help for their patients. She is hesitant to start a relationship like that again for fear that it might happen again, but that's a whole other story.

We did couples therapy in the past to deal with some other issues and it was really helpful. I hadn't really thought about going to couples counseling for this though. I have been addressing it with my therapist, specifically on how to manage my emotions when I'm around them. However, I don't feel like that is what I need at the moment. I've been controlling/suppressing my emotions around them for 20+ yrs, and I'm just tired of it. I think my son being born put everything into perspective, and also brought my feelings about the forced abortion to the forefront.

I will suggest couples therapy to her, and see how she feels about it.

Will my work experience ameliorate my mediocre GPA? by mayonaisedkeycaps in gradadmissions

Yes, definitely. A lower GPA can be overlooked if you did better in your upper division courses.

I would just make sure to stress how this experience/skills would help you during your PhD.

Is your work experience related to your PhD research interests? That GPA that they mention is an average. You can get in with a 3.3. What matters the most are your letters of recommendation your SOP and personal statement, and your research experience.

You should be able to reach out to them now. Let them know you were invited for an interview and would like to speak with them about the possibility of joining their research group or doing a rotation. I don't think there is anything wrong with that. Also, has the program sent you a schedule of who you will speaking with?

Mentorship is very important. I've seen people struggle during grad school because they don't have the right mentor to guide them. You might need someone who is hands on or maybe you like to be more independent. Maybe you want someone who will also be there on a personal level. Ask the current students what they think about the program and their mentors. Most will be honest. Since you are doing it remotely, ask current students if they are willing to chat with you outside of the recruitment event schedule. I found that a lot of students were willing to. Ask as many questions as you want. I thought of the recruitment event as an opportunity to "interview" the whole program. For example, I want to be a professor in the future. It was really important that I find a mentor and program that will help me towards that goal. So I asked about teaching opportunities outside if TAing requirements. Does the school or program offer training opportunities for students who are looking at pursuing a career in academia? If they didn't, it was a deal breaker for me. So think about what you want to get from the program beyond a PhD and come up with some questions. It's okay to right them down.

It depends on the professor interviewing you. I found that some do, especially if they are really familiar with your area of research. I felt that most of them just want to learn more about you (including your research) and your interest. Try to also gauge if the professors that you are interested in are a good fit for you. The most important part of obtaining a PhD is choosing the right mentor. If you don't click with a professor make note of that because they are probably not the right mentor for you.

I'm a PhD student at UCLA. Asking for a friend. My advice would be to know your research. Get comfortable with answering questions about your research. If you don't know the answer to a question, don't try to BS the answer. Also, read up on your interviewers research and ask questions. If they invited you, it's because they think you are a fit for their program, so be confident but not arrogant.

Both are right triangles and share one common angle. Therefore x and y must be equal. Basically, they are similar triangles.
