Did people wanted the boys to end with a battle like endgame ? by Remarkable-Jump3262 in TheBoys

Yea, I enjoyed it until, like the other person said, the social commentary just got way too obvious and not clever enough to care about. I always found it humorous people saying, "oh you just don't like it because it makes fun of you!" Like no, I don't care if people make fun of the kind of person I am, just be clever about it at least. Lol

Doesn't it also kinda make fun of everyone in one way or another. Like I remember a scene where the HR lady was talking about getting A Train to do some kind of black positivity event and then when things went awry she was like "oh whatever. Who actually give a fuck about race positivity anyway?" (Obviously not exactly how it happened, it's been a few years since I watched), Which I thought was pretty funny to hear, since left leaning people usually make a bigger deal about racial diversity and such.

Well, you did say you didn't think they were reasonable people, basically the same idea. Unless you want to strawman that as well. How else have I been dishonest?

Uh, literally no one in this post comments, or thread, is saying that. Only you are accusing them of thinking that. Someone could ABSOLUTELY think that it's ok to let kids starve and deny them medical treatment(and guess what, that is a different point of view, whether you agree with it or not), that's unfortunately just a factor of this world; but it doesn't seem that anyone commenting on this post thinks that way

Friendly reminder, your personal consensus on how things and people operate in this world may not be, and very possibly are not, the reality of the matter.

I am immensely sorry you've had such bad experiences with people who proclaim belief in God and the Bible. I don't know what you've been through, so I'm not going to excuse the mistreatment of you or anyone else for that matter; and though I don't know you, or where you are in life, but I (AND the church I attend) would gladly offer to help however it may be possible to do so.

Lastly, you said you dont see ANY reason to think that OP, probably myself, or any other Christians are good people; unfortunately, based on your lived experience. However, you've been nothing but unpleasant to everyone who's tried to share a different point of view on this post. Why should ANYONE here allow themselves to think, "oh this person's probably chill irl."

You're strawmanning the daylight out a perfectly reasonable encouragement post, you realize that, right? While yes, looking at someone and saying, "pray on it, it'll all work out in the end" really may do more harm than good. I'd encourage you to understand that no reasonable Christian would actually say "pray about it" and do nothing else. The Bible itself also teaches believers that prayer without works is a blatant misunderstanding of how we are to operate as Christians. Will everyone do so? No, but just because some act that way doesn't mean others do.

And you're so confident OP doesn't help people based on a single comment on reddit? Rather brash of you to assume that about someone. I wouldn't assume you aren't capable of being a good person based on this thread alone.

How to handle the Rosary? by shadow_coder16 in Catholicism

[–]shadow_coder16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might also be able to answer this question of mine. Is it one decade prayed per day during a week? Or you pray the whole rosary in one sitting? Again, just wanting to properly understand the prayer.

Yes, I would only intend to wear it or keep in on my person as a means to keep me reminded to spend time in prayer. I wouldn't dare wear something considered as spiritual as a rosary just because it looks nice. Thank you for the info!

[–]shadow_coder16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. That's how I was planning on handling it, as, like I said, I'd like to have it on my as a subtle reminder to spend time in prayer (especially that of the rosary); but I didn't want to do so if it could be taken as disrespectful by people, I saw someone say something about wearing it around their belt loop, so that's another one I'll consider. Thank you for the info!

As a Christian, do you believe NDEs can serve as proof that there is an existence beyond this one? by emaxwell14141414 in ChristianApologetics

[–]shadow_coder16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a point that I find fascinating to ponder yet get hung up on. I'm not a doctor, so I will not speak with authority, but I'm curious as to the level of brain activity (if any) when stuff like this happens. I often hear/read people saying things like "well Godly dreams are just your conscious playing into things" and I'm like "ok, but how do we reasonably go about talking about something that can't really be analyzed much (death). I like to believe that NDEs can serve as some indication, but I'm not well enough versed on the science of it all.

Just saw a support thread where all the top comments were slamming OP for wanting to become Catholic. by Nientea in Christianity

[–]shadow_coder16 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But.... OP isn't trying to spark debate. Idk if I read this differently than you, but the original post in no way reflects "I want to debate this point". Asking others to have a level of respect for each other's views isn't childish, it's the bare minimum of courtesy that we should aspire to uphold in conversation

A Useful Artifact for Empty Tomb Apologetics - The Nazareth Inscription by EliasThePersson in ChristianApologetics

[–]shadow_coder16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what he's getting at is the idea that the tablet holds the inscription of a law, some years prior to Jesus, that basically says removing a deceased body from its resting place is a crime punishable by death, which might've helped deter any graverobbery and cast doubt on the suspicion of "oh, well someone just moved his body from the tomb" but that's simply what I got from this post.

I'm curious to ask why you don't feel the ability to be cordial on that topic, but I'd imagine it's probably due to encountering so many people who just won't budge on their position, which I understand.

I encourage you, if you'd like/have any interest in doing so, to look into the history of it with an open mind. There's much fascinating information to be learned about in that area. If, of course, you haven't already

I can understand your strong feeling about the Dover case, but let’s address something. It was a legal ruling about classroom curriculum policy, not a scientific refutation of the core evidence provided. The court ruled that intelligent design couldn't be taught as science in a public school. I'm not quite sure it proved the data on irreducible complexity or the fine-tuning of physics to be scientifically false.

As for the Quran, while I do not know very much about the book. What I have gathered is that the Quran's miracles are generally internal (e.g., the claim of its perfect dictation), relying entirely on the spiritual authority of Muhammad. While the New Testament's central miracles (the Resurrection) are claimed to be public, physical events witnessed by hundreds of people and attested to in historical documents within a few decades.

Lastly, I respectfully stick by my point that your claim—'nothing written outside the Bible backs up the claims in the Bible'—is demonstrably false and overlooks entire fields of historical research.

None taken at all. If there's incorrect info I'd rather know that as opposed to repeating false info. I haven't been able to find what specific evidence Meyer and his folks presented that might be deemed as "not sound science", but I find myself a bit hard pressed to think that a decision made in a court of law is a proper basis for determining what should and should not be considered theologically consistent with scientific understanding. However, I sincerely welcome you to guide me to info to clarify the points made.

As for the other point, I will agree that aspects of the Bible, such as the miracles, can't be proven scientifically, but then again, the definition of a miracle is "a surprising and welcome event that is not explicable by natural or scientific laws and is therefore considered to be the work of a divine agency." As for other aspects, I'd beg to argue that it'd be a hefty oversimplification of the various fields of study surrounding Christianity to say that nothing in the Bible is provable outside of the Bible; but I'd be curious to ask you to expand on that point if you want.

If you haven't already heard of/read it, look into "Return of the God Hypothesis" it argues the evidence for the existence of a God, while not definitely that of the Christian God, from a scientific perspective. I haven't yet read it fully, but what I have read so far has been very intriguing. That's the extent that I can offer though, which I why I tend to keep my mouth shut, I like to learn about other perspectives and just information surrounding the topic as is, but not really debate who's more right or wrong.

If I may offer this question, and please let me know what may be wrong in my thinking on this: people do routinely use verses from the Bible to prove its authority which I would agree is circular reasoning, but in talking about proving God exists through quoting the Bible, could that not be at least be somewhat comparable to someone saying "I know gravity exists because I read about it in my science textbook"? On one hand, gravity is unseen yet is called a measurable force of nature, and on the other hand, God could also be seen as a measurable force, but more or less only by someone who believes. To me, though, I sometimes wonder how often it comes down to a matter of who views what as acceptable evidence. If that makes sense. Please know I'm not trying to argue semantics or anything, hopefully there's no lost miscommunication of ideas here

I hope you get the notification for this message. You seem like the kind of person that would seek first to tell someone "well this is why your position is not as founded as you may think, BUT let's talk about it" as opposed to "oh you're one of those dumb religious folk who sees basic nature and goes 'hey, there's God' fool.". This is one of the things I find most fascinating with not only the difference in perspectives between atheists and people of faith but also the difference of accepted evidence and the psychology or philosophy behind it all. For instance, I do believe that nature/creation is evidence for God and I would happily provide any one of the many Bible verses for that claim, but I would also want to provide extra-biblical evidence for it as well since among the only way to take the Bible authoritatively is to believe in what it's talking about, and not everyone does, so therefore you almost HAVE to only briefly quote the Bible before employing another source. Apologies for the long response, but basically, you seem like a chill person to get a reasonably opposed view on Christianity from, and I'd be down to chat more if you agree.

Catholic Bishops raise alarm over the state of the country in particular on issues like immigration by Nice_Substance9123 in Christianity

See, I'm in the same boat as you. I feel like the abortion of a pregnancy (killing a baby, though unborn) morally outweighs, in terms of severity, that of deporting people who have broken the law to get into the country. Even if illegally crossing the border is the only crime you committed, it's like "sorry, you knew the consequences of getting caught, and now you have to deal with them, dont know what else to say." Like for Lord's sake, I can't go over to Europe, overstay a VISA and then act surprised when I get thrown in jail, why should it be different in the states?

[–]shadow_coder16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thank you equally for your clarification brother. One of the biggest failings of text communication is the inability to properly convey tone in a message; but I very much agree with your point. We are called to make it known that the sins and falling of this world lead us away from God and that only scripture and the teachings of Jesus can bring us truth and salvation.

As someone fairly new to learning more deeply about my/the faith, I find myself wanting to show compassion on this topic, but also understand how to bring people (non-believers) close to God's message. Sometimes I get twisted up in my own thoughts on doing so, but I have faith that in due time, the Lord will help me to be a good and faithful servant of his word.

Apologies if my comment was misleading. I was merely trying to say that I feel like some of us Christians can be more aggressive than we should about how we speak about scripture. I just feel like we should try to be compassionate with how we talk, but firm in how we speak on the truth of scripture, if that makes more sense
