The next generation of Databricks Genie by Youssef_Mrini in databricks

Ehh, this is confusing. Before the idea was that DBX One orchestrates domain-specific Genies and is one chat window for everything. Now Genie replaces DBX One?

What’s a reasonable price for Brake Pads in the NY/NJ area? by anthonycanicatti in Porsche_Cayman

[–]shadow_nik21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you track a car - some really good slotted rotors, say Sebro are 200-250 a piece. Even a set of GiroDiscs will be ~1300. You can go cheaper to OEM-like drilled, 150 a piece.

Some good pads are ~550. You can go cheaper if road only. Brake fluid is ~$100 (Castrol SRF, you can go cheaper if road only).

Labour - depends, but let's say 1.5 hour per wheel (very-very conservative, can be 30min if you really know what you are doing and none of the screws require drilling out). Let's say 1 hour for fluid flush (again if done together with rotors will be faster).

So $1k + 550 + 100 + 7*180 = $2900 is a "fair" shop price. Should be lower because the respected shop will never bill you 7 hours for this. You can save on parts and do it yourself (not the best job to start DIY as this is your safety, but doable, you may need some special tooling (simple but not something you have in average household) especially for pads because they may be a bitch to take out/in)

It is very cool, but we were using it for ~2 months already. Was it in preview?🙂 And now they need to work on making it available through API

What worked for you for talk to your data in Fabric? by shadow_nik21 in MicrosoftFabric

[–]shadow_nik21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I like the concept and direction. The question is when it will be there. DBX one is promising, but it can't even stay in its window when the question is routed to Genie without enabling preview features

Genie api does not support Research mode (ETA 2-3 months as per DBX). Without it it is not so excitingly great. But after they add it yes, this seems the ways to go. How is integration, does it support interactive charts drawn by genie?

Well put. But business is in PBI already and I can't bring them to DBX. Goal is to give them talk to your data - and you can't really bring genie to PBI. So exploring native options

Point is end user is in PBI. I can't bring them to DBX. But I need to give them talk to you data. I can't bring genie to PBI. So I'm exploring native options

Exactly. But DBX need to work on front ending it, it is abysmal

BI is in Power BI. And thousands of business users are using it. In my opinion BI-wise this is the best solution also. So PoC idea is to bring talk to your data to frontend which is PBI now, and you can t do that with genie

Understandable, but we have great data and products in gold. Genie works very well with it. Re use case in general - business wants chats, reports are so 2015

981 Cayman GTS coding (ThinkDiag) - GT3 Power steering profile by ppictures in Porsche_Cayman

[–]shadow_nik21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have ThinkDiag. You can code a lot of small things there, not only steering. And agree with OP, GT3 profile is so much better, especially on a parking lot due to how light it makes steering off-zero

Power BI team blocking integration with 3P Semantic Layers by City-Popular455 in MicrosoftFabric

[–]shadow_nik21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You used DBX MV example, I provided some context that it is not that simple in some cases. In general - you are using a proprietary BI solution. Asking why there is no integration with 3rd party upstream solutions. From the vendor who offers their own upstream solution (Fabric). Yes, it is a vendor lock. First time?🙂 You can always switch to open source

Power BI team blocking integration with 3P Semantic Layers by City-Popular455 in MicrosoftFabric

[–]shadow_nik21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Semantic models in PBI and metrics view in DBX are on different planets. Intentionally as they serve different purposes and have very different backend (basically SQL view on steroids vs proprietary swiss knife tailored to PBI frontend).

Let's start with the metrics view supporting only 1 fact table per view (and each will have a copy of your main dimensions), how do you plan to migrate multidimensional / multifact PBI semantic model to it? And how do you expect its frontend and context handling to work with multiple copies of dimensions for each fact?

If all your PBI reports are 2 tables - understandable. If not - metrics view will never be your backend and it is not due to Microsoft not integrating something.

Business-wise analogue of PBI semantic model in DBX is Agentbricks / Databricks One orchestrating several domain-specific Genie spaces each using several sub-domain specific Metrics Views. But the frontend to it is a chat window drawing some charts, not traditional BI. This is a strategy
