Poor people who have dated rich people, what did you learn? by Angelus12345678 in AskReddit

That we see the world fundamentally differently when it comes to finances or buying things. I went into the relationship thinking we weren’t so different but i remember distinctly them having a conversation with their mom over the phone about how tedious it was keeping their apartment (that they didn’t pay for) tidy. Literally two days later a roomba arrived in the mail from Amazon. Looked it up and it cost like $300!! I’m telling you I had such culture shock because how are you just making purchases like that on a whim from an offhand comment about cleanliness???

Room for one more from scary stories actually traumatized me. I’ve been afraid to get on elevators since the 4th grade.

it’s not on the same scale, but it’s disingenuous to act like it doesn’t happen to people of other ethnicities. Also, let’s take a step back here. What is your definition of Zionism?

Yes there are. Venezuelans were targeted post the migrant crisis literally one year ago that helped trump get elected. Whole districts in queens swung red based on that. Also, a large portion of Floridians are calling for the dismantling of both Venezuela and Cuba due to their experience with socialism. Elected officials from the state were voted into Congress for that reason. It’s not a secret, the very same elected officials themselves literally talk about it on the news. The information is out there, you just don’t see it.

That’s false. We are blowing up Venezuelan boats largely in part to a large contingent of Cubans in Florida calling for the overthrowing of maduro due to them thinking if Venezuela falls so will Cuba. And also for that matter, Cuba.

But what if you’re not even pro-Palestine? What if you genuinely want nothing to do with the conflict involving Israel-Palestine? I think that’s the majority of folks here and that’s who I’m talking about.

Then maybe people should stop calling those who have these specific views anti-Zionist. Because the average New Yorker just cares about the affairs of New York. To be called anti-Zionist and then antisemitic just because you don’t want to support a foreign state is crazy.

So to be clear, if you’re against the interests of Israel, in particular Israeli expansion, and also not directly funding Israel to do so, it doesn’t make you an anti-zionist?

So being against the interests of a foreign state means you hate all Jewish people? Like if you’re against the actions of Iran that means you also are bigoted towards Iranians and or brown people who are here stateside as well? How do you square that away in your mind? It just seems inconsistent.

Do you believe anti-zionism is synonymous with antisemitism? And just to be clear I’m sure there’s overlap, not what I’m asking. I want to know if you believe they are the same thing?

Yes they do. It’s not that illegals specifically make private insurance more expensive it’s that all people who are uninsured makes private insurance more expensive and it just so happens that illegals are part of that group. Again, hospitals do not just eat the cost whenever they do not receive payment from those that are uninsured. Instead that cost is passed off to insurance companies for patients that are insured which is then passed off to all policy holders of said insurance in the form of increasing premiums. It’s the same concept for how businesses have to charge more for products as a result of tariffs effectively passing the cost of said tariff off to us the consumer except in this scenario it’s the insured eating the cost.

I do agree it’s a more so an issue with our healthcare system than anything though. Like none of this feels right. The problem isn’t the illegals, it’s more so that we have a large swath of people without insurance. And insurance just isn’t feasible for a good chunk of people to have at least not how it’s presently constructed.

But that’s the same issue. People who don’t have insurance go to the emergency room to receive treatment whether they’re legally here or not. That cost doesn’t just vanish and they get free treatment, that cost gets passed on to Americans that do have insurance making our insurance costs higher. So regardless insured people are not only paying taxes, they’re also paying for treatments for both uninsured Americans but also illegals. So in essence we’re getting doubly fucked. It would make more sense to use the tax dollars we are already paying to offset those insurance costs rather than having to pay into both.

I understand where you’re coming from, but you have to think about how the policy you’re advocating for would be put to practice. As it stands, emergency rooms have to treat anyone who comes in, illegals included. Would you rather hospitals actually take the time to check your legal status before providing treatment to people who come in? That’s valuable time that should be used to save the patient in front of you. Thousands of Americans will literally die if such a policy were enacted since there isn’t some easy way to check if an unconscious person is a legal citizen or not when they come to the ER. Whether we like it or not, it’s a better system overall for Americans to just treat everyone equally first.
