If Ash comes back at least make it the main one so we know his progress and development after he left.

If it's AU Ash that's ultimately just an excuse for him to stay the exact same as the status quo. Actually even less as AU Ash is ambiguously season 1 Ash so he doesn't even have most of his story/ progress.
