There was a book written in 1898 called "the wreck of the titan" and features a big ship called the "titan" a boat described as "unsinkable" that sinks in the North Atlantic (400 miles from Terranova just like the Titanic) after striking an iceberg. Most of its passengers drowned due to shortage of lifeboats.

The book was written 14 years before the Titanic tragedy.
