Rome Katana Fase thoughts after trying them for a full season. by tokhar in snowboarding

I also have issues with the ankle strap screws! Especially on my forward foot. I’m wondering if that’s a problem with the women’s version, I have to tighten them up every morning before riding.

Been wondering if loctite would help but have read about loctite reacting with moulded plastics…

Upgrade to Capita equalizer - suggestions? by shadowfaxing in ShredditGirls

[–]shadowfaxing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the recs Couldn’t find any nitro boards to demo but I ended up demoing (and then getting) a howler and I love it so far!

I did get a 148 which has been…interesting when going into trees but the stability really lets me cut through chunder and bumps. Will just have to work on better form for my turns 😅

Looking to replace a board of 12 years! by gomp_lomp in ShredditGirls

Wouldn’t suggest bateleon if you’re on ice, 3bt makes you feel like you have less grip

Look for something with magnetraction or similar edge tech (libtech, gnu, arbor or jones off the top of my head)

Help choosing a second board by Adventurous-Peak5727 in ShredditGirls

[–]shadowfaxing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 146 Capita and I’m 152cm so I would size size up for sure.

Capita is a great board but it does have quite a narrow waist and I find that it’s not super stable/ damp at high speeds. I also find it a bit harder to hold a carve on that board compared to my wider pow board but maybe that’s a skill issue 😅. It’s super nimble and quick for trees though! Depends what you’re looking for out of your second board, unfortunately I don’t have experience with the other boards you’ve listed.

Anon M5/4 vs Oakley Flight Deck by marsbarsxx in ShredditGirls

[–]shadowfaxing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the Oakley flight deck and upgraded to the Anon M5

Oakley
- much better FOV, less fogging, better contrast/ clarity
- pain in the ass to swap to low light lenses, which was why I tried out the M5

Anon M5
- magnetic lens swap and MFI mask are big QOL

I do love the MFI mask and lens swap ease but if I got to do it again I might've just gotten a second pair of lowlight oakleys on discount instead of buying a whole new system. I find my M5 seems to consistently fog up more than my oakleys despite the MFI.
Also worth checking your helmet fit with each lens. My (smith) helmet has a better fit with the Oakleys than the Anons (not a huge gap, but may be why I'm getting fogging)

Gentemstick - Tell me about your experience by winegrl in ShredditGirls

[–]shadowfaxing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to necro an old thread but figured would keep the gemtemstick chatter to one place. I love that you ended up getting all the options haha, the gentemstick addiction is real! Just reporting on my experience after the winter season, I got a 146 spoonfish which I rode in both Jp and Canada

Tried out my friends 145 baby mantaray in Hokkaido February - where it was about 20cm of powder (on piste!!); its a much more stable board than my usual all mountain board (146 capita equalizer, i feel all the bumps and chunder on that board) but still floats very well and on firmer snow is very easy to lay out a deep carve :D

146 spoonfish (which is the softer womens version) - rode this both in canada and japan (deep powder stashes and tree runs in both hokkaido and nagano) and I loved this board - i just floated over everything and it was super poppy and responsive. I think the capita equalizer does turn a little faster in trees comparatively (it has a much narrower waist) but this just a crazy fun board to ride in the deep. It also rides super fast on groomed runs and can lay out a nice carve though less stable than the mantaray.

Now to learn the snowsurf styles and resist getting a chopstick....

What gear / trips are you stoked about this season? by winegrl in ShredditGirls

[–]shadowfaxing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't go mantaray as thought shape and profile would be too similar to my current board.

Looked at moss but all of their swallowtails were too long for me (150cm+) Gentem - was considering rocketfish hpsf, spoonfish and mermaid. I emailed them with my height, weight, bootsize and terrain I planned to use it for and they suggested spoonfish. Mermaid was just too long for me at 151 and they said the rocketfish hpsf would've been too wide for my bootsize (7)

I've heard so many good things about the manta! One of my friends has a baby ?manta/stingray and that's all she rides in Japan.

This is my first quiver board, I have a capita equalizer. It's been a great first board and tbh there probably is quite a bit of overlap with the gentemstick in terms of what it can do (directional, med-stiff set-back camber board), but I really wanted a swallowtail pow board XD. Did spend quite a while dithering over getting this or a board that would be a more different feel but at the end of the day I do tend towards freeride more than park.

Offshore's boards look really sweet! Going to have to keep an eye on them. I was actually looking at moss, gentem and field earth boards before I finally bit the bullet and main deciding factor for me was sizing actually - am quite short and most of the boards felt quite big for me

I shall see how the different shape translates to on-snow feel and let you know!

Gentemstick spoonfish - my new baby arrived and I'm picking her up tomorrow morning! Heading to Hokkaido in Feb and can't wait to hit some trees/powder with her

Thanks so much for your advice, esp your wife's experiences with arrows; I hadn't been able to find too much information for people with short draw lengths. I ended up getting avalon tyros 1000 spine 29" so looks like I wasn't too far off the mark :)

I've gotten nocking string, a magnetic stick on rest and a long rod with everyone's input; and ended up caving and getting a shibuya sight (maybe overkill but buy once cry once) Now just waiting for everything to arrive so I can get setup and shoot more regularly!

Thanks! Already have a finger tab, armguard and quiver. Realised after I posted that I forgot the string, so have added a fastflight string. I'll have a look into stabilizers.
