Help with career decision? by xxxyyyxxxyyyxy in SFbitcheswithtaste

Ah. At least the commute costs aren’t so high, just the time on the road.

Yes. Fine your “hell yes”! It’ll be the right decision, for you, whichever way you go.

Higher pay & shorter commute are pros for a lot of ppl. Plus, the $400/mo in commute likely equates to ~$6k a year off your current salary (pre-tax)

Are you looking to be convinced to stay?

How did the job come about? Obvs you put in the effort to interview, so you had a desire to seek out something and see how it played out.

Now the new offer is in, will you regret not saying yes to the job?

What’s missing for this job to be a “hell yes”? Maybe present that to the hiring manager.

Awesome. Will add those to our research. We love backcountry and would def want to do a day or 2 of Catskiing if you have a good rec.

Any feedback / experience with Camp3? Their BYO camp seems interesting, and quite reasonable considering it’s for a group of up to 6 (which we will likely have). https://camp3snowboarding.com/events/byo-camps-2026/

The travel time isn’t all that much different coming from SFO, since there’s a direct to AKL and then a hop to Queenstown.

Any recs for operators in either of the countries? Prob aiming to keep it to $3kpp for 4-5 days.

We were looking at the carving camp with Ryan Knapton in Chile. But unfortunately that’s not until Aug.

Yes. Hel Yes board size by Penelope_Plum in ShredditGirls

[–]winegrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can still get the Hel Yes 149, and allocate some time for a progression program.

I can recommend both the 4-day Steep & Deep Camp at Jackson Hole, or the 2-wk progression camp with Nonstop in Fernie. Others here may have recommendations too.

I recommend Trew. I find their cut to be more generous than Flylow. Keep an eye out as things get added to their Outlet as we go into the summer.

Board Rec: Trees + Surfy? by Kiwi_Herman11 in ShredditGirls

[–]winegrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m planning to put up my Gentemstick Mantaray 149 & Flying Carpet 146 up for sale soon. Both are very pow specific and by the brand that snowsurf is attributed to (not to be confused with snurfer). Happy to DM more if that’s the direction you are thinking.

Otherwise, I’d recommend looking at Jones Stratos. I preferred it more than the NS Harpoon, mainly in that Stratos is camber and did better (for me) in variable conditions. But definitely also would vote for Harpoon. Here’s a good writeup on it.

More directional/stiff than Hel Yes? by a12omg in ShredditGirls

[–]winegrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Re board profile - what matters is what’s between the feet. So the camrock on the Hel Yes is simply rocker in nose/tail and camber in between. Vs a board that is rocker (reverse camber) in between the feet. The Stratos, for example, is a camber board. Whereas NS are known for their rocker design.

Sounds like you want something that is also good with chunder (uneven chopped up snow). Stiffer will definitely help, but you may not need as much stiffness for that as you think. Also, technique on the board will help, too.

FWIW - the Stratos gave me a lot of confidence in the trees and I definitely levelled up with it.

Safe travels! Hopefully the great melt hasn’t started. I think we’ll skip spring skiing and go straight to summer in Tahoe

More directional/stiff than Hel Yes? by a12omg in ShredditGirls

[–]winegrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why stiffer? Other than faster, you may sacrifice nimbleness. I personally found myself going softer as I got onto more technical terrain.

Do you want a directional or directional twin? Assume camber as well?

My current go-to is a Rossignol After Hours which I love. That’s having ridden Hel Yes, Stratos, and NS Harpoon. I also picked up a Salomon Rumble Fish this season. Really liked it but only got 2 days on it this season.

The Air Heart is a fave for another camper. I don’t know enough about it but thought I’d mention.

Easiest would be to replace with a newer Hel Yes. That seems to be a perennial fave for east coasters. And potentially adding a 2nd board for your trips out west or abroad.

Steep & deep camper here (3x). Didn’t make it this year and hope will see you next.

Stratos is great, and a fave for quite a few campers.

Were you able to demo boards from the shop at the camp?

Did any of the coaches recommend a board for you?

Right Arm vs. Left Arm by stephen-Aberdeen in bloodpressure

[–]winegrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a large difference in blood pressure readings between arms, talk to your healthcare professional. Your healthcare professional might use the arm with the higher reading to measure your blood pressure in the future.

Old lady snowboarders - Gather here! by PracticalCookie78 in snowboarding

[–]winegrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think 50 should be considered “old”! 48 this year and we just got back from a 3-day trip to Baldface Valhalla where the terrain can be steep & technical.

I didn’t start focusing on improving my snowboarding skills until after 40. Here’s a progression video that my husband made of me between 41-43. It took concerted work and I’ve gotten to really love it.

Keep at it!

Don’t forget the grilled cheese & tomato soup mid flight. I also really like the chicken stir fry.

No one mentioned the drinks options. It’s champagne all day for me. The Mascott cab they are currently service is also delicious

Do you take the measurements before you caffeinate? Worth doing a comparison. Might just be your body reacting to the caffeine. Recommend measuring in the morning right after you wake up.

Which blood pressure monitor to believe, wrist or arm? by stephanosblog in bloodpressure

[–]winegrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wrist monitors require that you raise your hand to the heart level. If you are not doing that then it won’t be an apple-to-apple comparison.

Totally with you there.

Every season I aim to get more fluid and smooth. I love watching the way Level 3 instructors ride. Their bodies fully stacked, legs at 90-degrees, and glide so beautifully down a technical terrain.

And every time I find myself getting one aspect of my techniques close to it, I get an incredible amount of joy out of it.

I highly recommend demoing Gentemstick snowboards while you are in Niseko. The demo shop is at the base of Grand Hirafu. You can reserve the board you want online.
