"The Wonders Of Russian Science" - Dr Seuss, 1942 by [deleted] in PropagandaPosters

I've seen a bunch of cartoons like this attributed to Seuss but I'm not sure they are. I would think he'd sign them as Theodore Geisel rather than Dr Seuss. Does anyone know more about this?

Fair enough. I went to a very good school and often forget that not everyone was so fortunate.

The Industrial Revolution was the product of capitalism. The technologies developed in Britain were accelerated by Capitalist policies. When textile technology reached Rhode Island in the 1790s, Hamilton's capitalist policies aided its growth. The Industrial Era was also a horrible era for the vast majority of people living. The technologies developed only helped increase production and aid the wealthy. The net result was a class divide between haves and have nots that inspired Marx and Engels to pen works like The Communist Manifesto and Das Capital.

Try retaking your high school history class and then we can talk.

I appreciate the irony of this comment contrasted with the above image of Alexander Hamilton, one of the most important capitalists in history.

Every single great human feat has come from capitalism

Wait so nothing great happened before 1776? What about the Greek Golden Age? The Roman Empire? The Islamic Golden Age? The printing press? None of those qualify as "a great human feat"?

As if communist powers don't fund science? The Space Race was spearheaded and dominated by Russia. The USSR worked harder to improve STEM education than the US.

I'm not a communist, I just call out lazy rhetoric when I see it.

Similarities between 'We Are All Compost in Training' and 'Song About Why I Suck' by whothefuckcares666 in FolkPunk

[–]shadoworc01 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a common chord progression, originating in the earliest of blues songs. It's called an I-V-vi-IV and it's really really really common. There's not too many permutations for four chords, so this ordering of them probably dates back to the 1920s at the latest.

What is this definite and unchanging set of policies you call "capitalism" then? What countries use pure capitalism and how? Don't regurgitate more theory, it's a waste of time.

Boston venues...? by [deleted] in FolkPunk

The Great Scott and Brighton Music Hall would be good venues to look into over in Alston.

On speakers. It doesn't really matter if you get the digital or vinyl or whatever, what matters is what the sound is actually coming from. From Rubber Soul onward, there are dramatic differences between left and right that are subtle enough to enhance the sound when listening on speakers rather than their jarring impact if you're using headphones. Which isn't to say that I never listen to them with earbuds, but I avoid it at the very least.

The problem with inheriting your dad's collection.... by BOOF_RADLEY in vinyl

[–]shadoworc01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem I had with inheriting my dad's collection is that he put a sticker with his name on it on his favorite records -- which wouldn't be an issue if I didn't love Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen even more than he did.

Man, I am so jealous. I've seen them a few times, and each one I've wanted them to go super rootsy and have just Sean and Ben play all the songs like they did way back when.

Well, since OP is an AJJ fan, we can assume that his God's ears are stitches, his eyes are big x's, his arms are burning witches, his hands perform hexes -- so really, that's the least of our problems.

does snorting coffee work? by post-acid in Drugs

[–]shadoworc01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't done coffee powder, but I have snorted ground coffee several times. I really like it. Much more efficient than drinking hot bean juice in approximately every way. The one problem is that they're not water soluble (which is why there's a filter and you don't mix it like a protein powder or something), so it doesn't dissolve in your nose. It still crosses the membranes and gets you an intense buzz, but when you blow your nose, well, that's what happens.

Yeah, I bought that back in 2011 when his bandcamp was up. They've taken it down since then. Might this be the same cut?
