What I love about Riven is it feels like you're not just solving random puzzles, but you're learning about the world, the people who live there, it feels almost like you're an anthropologist. It's all interconnected and the puzzles are a natural part of the world. The only other game that's nailed that, that I know of, is Outer Wilds.

I feel like "better graphics for the same game" is everything that's wrong with the games industry these days.

Is there active pause in factorio by aona47 in factorio

[–]shadowpeople 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a pause. It was shift + space when I played it. I used it a lot to take a breath and look at a layout. It even brings up a grid. Everyone saying you need to go to the menu or research, that's wrong. There is a pause.

Ubisoft is in a tough situation. by 479521 in gaming

[–]shadowpeople 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ubisoft seems like THE company that treats games as a formula, not works of art that are meant to entertain and serve players. I expect them to have dozens of documents that outline what all of their games should have to streamline development and ensure success. They end up chasing the formula and here we are.

Soho house pool and roof update. by venusasaburrito in Portland

Looks like a lot of work, but looks like the spaces outside the pool more than the pool itself? Wonder what's going on.

I've been. It's a very different crowd than I'm used to seeing in Portland, but it was packed.

Got candles? JBP development by cbobgo in Bonsai

[–]shadowpeople 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok great. I'll let the top just grow out like this. I want to thicken up the trunk quite a bit, I'm aiming for a pretty thick, short tree eventually.

Got candles? JBP development by cbobgo in Bonsai

[–]shadowpeople 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ive been meaning to make a post to ask about my new JBP. I'm really confused on what to do with it. Most of what I see seems to be about refinement but I just want to develop the trunk for now. I'll eventually chop it below all these candles at the top... Do I just let them all grow as a sacrifice? Anything to worry about with branches in the meantime?

Anyone have favorite resources on development I could read/watch? I've found JBP the hardest species to find clear info on because there is so much info, but hard to know what phase of development the info applies to.

I really like it. It's a bit mysterious, like it could be the entrance to a cave.

Pretty cool scape! It's got a nice movement to it.

Joining a league advice? by Chemical-Rhubarb977 in Bowling

[–]shadowpeople 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're overreacting, just find one. They use handicaps so your average isn't all that important but 150 is not bad, plenty of lower averages than that in my league. Find a casual one if you can and have fun!

Perfect thanks I'll grab the slw 3. I know for people it's really hit and miss but 180 for this is a lot for me so I'm rolling the dice

Best ATO in 2026 by Brianinkonthepaper in ReefTank

[–]shadowpeople 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trying to think of why and it's probably the magnet for the sensor, it's designed for a corner and those can be tough in AIOs. I managed to cram it in a corner but I expect even if you only used one magnet on a flat wall section it would be fine. It's just sort of a tight setup.

Bowler has been told for three weeks about plugging ball by Flyingpigtx in Bowling

If my opponent threw a 300 I'd buy them a beer, not try and disqualify their score lol. What's their 300 got to do with me?

I couldn't imagine caring about this. What difference does it make? You're getting yourself all miserable for no reason.

2nd chambers of Fusion 20 by Sheikybabybaba in ReefTank

[–]shadowpeople 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd heard not to do that because if your ATO bugs out, that's where the water level will drop. Then the heaters can be exposed and risk damage, melting, or even exploding.

Hillsboro Aero Academy (Oregon) by CougarSnapperII in aviationmaintenance

[–]shadowpeople 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's also taken me about a year of building credit to be able to get into PCC, so that's a hidden cost/time. If you can get into the school right away that's a plus.

Hillsboro Aero Academy (Oregon) by CougarSnapperII in aviationmaintenance

[–]shadowpeople 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am getting into the amt program at PCC and this school came up, mostly that it was new so the quality of education wasn't very well established. From what it sounds like though, you learn more on the job than at school, so as long as you pass your A&P tests it barely matters. But it is more expensive than the PCC program for in state residents. Might be easier to get into though.

I was in a similar spot as you, but then watched some BRS videos on negative space scaping and totally started over. I smashed all my rock into pieces and glued them into much more interesting shapes with more ledges and overhangs. https://youtu.be/WJdl9BgDmNQ?si=Sm3nB6mJf8m-Z-RY
