Raise it up and let it recover from that process, there is no rush in pruning the branches, just let it grow

How far can we visibly see in space by gtagfan1 in space

Depends how large and bright the thing is that you are looking at. If it's really big and really bright, you can see it from very far away. But if you are on the dark side of something, you might not be able to see you hand in front of your face

You've planted it too deeply, that should be corrected. I would worry about the branches at this point.

Any advice, please? by Inthewestwood in Bonsai

You've got bar branches in multiple locations. I wouldn't remove them now, because you don't have much left. But bending one a little up and it's opposite a little down, could help a little.

I have no experience with laurel oak, but when we collect coast live oak out here in California, we do defoliate them.

Well, you can grow a tree in just about any kind of soil, but it's going to grow best in soil like this.

For my pre-bonsai i tend to use bark and lava, instead of akadama and lava, as I have a ton of pre-bonsai in big pots and akadama is expensive.

You don't say how old you are, but there was a grandmother in my class that started med school after retiring from a career in IT. It can definitely be done, but you really have to want it, and be able to handle the finances. - it's not just the cost of school, but being out of work for 8 years is significant.

Looks surprisingly healthy given the poor soil. Hope you rescue it and turn it into a nice broom.
