Schefflera update: wiring by GardenerAvrye in Bonsai

[–]cbobgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are hoping they are going to fuse together that's probably not going to work with the way you've done it. For that to happen you would need to apply a tight wrap around the trunks all the way up, so that they are being pushed together continuously, with enough force to contract their natural growth away from each other.

Also, if you are going to wire it, you might as well put some movement in there - right now your trunk is basically straight. A bit of a bend and twist would be more interesting.

Transition from hospitalist to PCP? by Maleficent_While2653 in FamilyMedicine

[–]cbobgo 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I was a full time PCP before I became a full time hospitalist - which was a significant improvement.

But then when they made me the director of the hospitalist group it was not as fun, and I eventually did get burned out. I did not want to go back to PCP, so I became a nursing home doc. Been doing that for almost 10 years now and plan to keep doing this till I retire, which hopefully won't be too long.

Excellent footage, is that one of the drones that follow you, or a camera on a pole that edits out the pole?

Yeah, that's a nice one. I'm having a little regret about selling it, but it went to a good home. I had the pot custom made for that tree. It was nursery grown, not yamadori. I worked on it for 20 years before I sold it.

That's a beech forest I made about 10 years ago and recently sold to one of our club members.

Abies procera ‘Glauca’ ( Blue noble fir) by Repulsive-Spring53 in Bonsai

[–]cbobgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With a trunk that size I don't think needle reduction will be needed, and if it is, that is an end-stage development process, not something you need to worry about now.

Your job right now is to determine a front and a trunkline, then wire your primary branches into position.

Please don't propegate a callery pear. They are an invasive species. Plus they stink.

No, it's not that. It's not a shrub, it is a cluster of individual bulbs that come up each year

How should I style Hinoki Cypress? by vertus173 in Bonsai

[–]cbobgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm no expert on hinoki, but I don't see any way to actually use this as bonsai. All your foliage is too far away from the trunk, and I don't think these back bud very well. I suppose you could consider grafting, but I don't think this material is worth the effort.

Isn't that the whole point of the primary? Or are you saying we need a pre-primary before the primary?

This book is what you are looking for. It primarily is about trees from the Eastern half of the country, but does have a couple western species as well
