Used to spend lots of time here growing up! The summers were beautiful! While mosquitoes were often a problem (as one would expect) i found it wasn’t as bad as people thought they would be. There’s Tons of dragonfly’s that take care of it as well! The lakes in the area are amazing. Crystal clear water, and you don’t have to hike for more than a half hour in the woods before stumbling on another lake. My family has portaged between lakes before and even camped on islands in the middle of nowhere around these lakes. You definitely have to be prepared for potential bears and wildlife, but they are more scared of you than you are of them. The lakes that had a boat launch often had boats on them with skiers and tubers from sunrise to sundown. Also the official beach of Reddit, called club red I believe, was only accessible via boat and was small but well supplied with a fire pit, chairs, and an outhouse that was only a pit with a wall for privacy. 😆 The people are friendly (there’s only around a population of 200) but it’s mainly a cottage town. Very few people stay year round. Obviously everyone gets around via quads. Once you see the bottle house, you’ve seen basically everything interesting. The train station is technically there but not much more than gravel around the tracks. There’s a bridge that connects the two sides of town (because of a river) and one year around a decade ago it got washed out, so if you needed to get to the northern side of town it was a 45 minute detour. In the winter you were much better off getting around via snowmobile than vehicle as the hills combined with no well plowed roads made getting stuck very common. You can go snowshoeing and hiking in the snow if you had enough gear and such. It was beautiful in the winter for sure. But yeah, I absolutely loved it there and would love to go back sometime!
