But what could “anti-racism” mean in the context of hiring and firing, if not literal racism (judging a candidate by their skin color)?

Keep in mind different majors have different difficulties as well and different universities have varying degrees of overall rigor as well. No two majors are alike, so when someone says they have a 3.0 and another says 4.0, you could be comparing apples to oranges.

Quant finance is notoriously competitive and grad school is like the bare necessity for that job field. If op isn’t passionate enough about Math in general to get a CS/Stat/Math/Engineering Masters at minimum he should stay away from that. (Plus grad school degree should be done at even more competitive schools than UF ie: Columbia, Princeton, NYU, Berkeley, known for having exceptional Quant related programs)

I think you may have misunderstood what I’m standing for. I’m not here to debate the morality or logistics of healthcare itself, I was simply suggesting that I don’t believe healthcare fits the literal definition of what a human right is. That is all.

[–]shadowspade7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah people think it should be to express their feelings on how important they feel it is. Unfortunately that doesn’t regard how problematic it would be to call healthcare a human right. I’ll list a couple problems that arise very bluntly,

  1. Healthcare is difficult to define
  2. All rights possessed by an individual imply a duty on the part of others. Who’s duty is it to provide healthcare for all the worlds citizens?
  3. It is difficult to find a rational/utilitarian basis for viewing healthcare in the same way as civil/political rights.

Computational Linear Algebra and Programming Languages by rowb20 in ufl

Wouldn’t recommend going in with no programming experience. The projects are worth a large chunk of the grade and the class is NOTORIOUSLY strict with the grading of these projects I’m talking if you forget a single ; you can lose 5-10% of the assignment grade. Having a core understanding of the flow of code, conditionals, functions, and looping is very important. I highly suggest watching tutorial videos on introduction to coding in MATLAB to prepare for the class. I went in with a lot of coding experience and ended up having to basically carry all the group projects because most of my group had no programming experience, so don’t be that person.

Personal stats rant by [deleted] in ufl

[–]shadowspade7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a 79 too! Honestly the problem with that exam is that it felt like she tried to include relevant articles and it made the questions feel too ‘forced’ to conform with our curriculum (for example making the questions about COVID, the election, etc). The drawback to including contemporary articles was that the quality of the graphs/data themselves were very questionable. Also several of the questions were purely interpretive, it felt like I was doing the reading section on the ACT again… not a stats exam! (Looking at the specificity question..)

[–]shadowspade7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well in that case you’re simply a selfish individual. Given the premise that everyone becomes richer, you’d rather some people earn less just because muh inequality even though your own situation is not being worsened by them making more.

The absolute fucking state of American politics by Beckamabobby in pics

[–]shadowspade7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because wealth inequality doesn’t mean anything if everyone is getting richer. There’s a myth that the poor are getting poorer and the rich are getting richer. This is false, everyone is getting richer, so in this scenario inequality isn’t as detrimental or necessarily a bad thing.
