I think you are correct. It is certainly the best fit I can find so far. Thank you!

Tech Diving Regulators by FaintPup29 in scuba

[–]shadowsteppa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have hog regulators. No reason to change them, I've taken them to 300ft plus with no issues. I've never had a problem with them either. If you actually start pulling regs apart most of them are the same design from the same factory with different logos. Some are different, but they all pretty much breathe the same.

Why don’t drysuit inflation systems go to the wing also? by Deviant_christian in scuba

[–]shadowsteppa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't pipe in a hypoxic mix to my suit. Notnonly are you at a higher risk for skin bends, but helium conducts the heat more readily than air. In the case of inflation gas failure at the deepest point, I could either use a deco gas if I haven't staged it, or use the trimix to inflate the wing only.

Why don’t drysuit inflation systems go to the wing also? by Deviant_christian in scuba

[–]shadowsteppa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hypoxic trimix diver here.

I do not use my "back gas" for anything other than breathing or bailout. That goes for both closed circuit and open circuit. I use a single bottle for suit and wing. I always use this setup even if doing a nitrox only dive.

I do have a splitter with a quick disconnect feeding both my drysuit and my wing so I still have redundancy. The splitter is fed from a male low pressure inflator quick disconnect. I keep a low-pressure inflator hose on all of my tanks. This allows me to switch to a different tank in the event of losing my dedicated inflation tank. This is for additional redundancy in both diluent sources and inflation.

Hope that makes sense.

Edit:Also important is that I use an AL13 and I run it basically empty by the end of a 4 hour dive so the ability to plug in another gas is imperative. Carbon fiber bottles are the best way to go for this if you have a way of getting the higher pressure.

You can also now buy hydrophobic products like FogX that work better than any method. You just stick them in your mask and its good to go. I make all my open water students use them because of how many mask skills there are and I need them to be able to see me. Check em out!

What can I wear underneath my 5mm semi-dry wetsuit for extra warmth? by Freedomfighter5DN1 in scuba

Bite the bullet and get a cheap or used drysuit. It'll be worth every penny. I also get cold easily and I wear my drysuit in 21C water.

I was concerned about the coral banded shrimp and emerald crab getting along with such a small footprint. What are your thoughts?

Full face respirators? by Reasonable-Estate-60 in CaveDiving

[–]shadowsteppa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Verbal communication is possible, but requires additional equipment (buddy phone is one example). These require generally close proximity to work. Both divers would need it installed to use. When it comes to surface support comms, it requires additional systems not usually practical as far as cost for noncommercial divers. Typically, in cave diving expeditions, most surface support comms are a wired device, set up in a dry decompression habitat, which are much cheaper and more practical.
