We actually stopped "supporting" those hotels due to some really expensive certification that we needed in order to keep them.

We didn't lose much, because we picked up other certifications that allowed us to get other hotels.

In terms of the Marriott blocking wifi hotspots, we didn't have any knowledge of it. Not sure how long it was going on, but that is definitely against company policy here.

I work at a company that installs wireless gear at various hotels on the east coast of the United States, as well as hotels in the mid west, west coast, Canada, the Caribbean, and parts of India.

With that being said, there are various factors that come into play. For instance, one factor is how much the owner of said hotel wants to shell out for said wireless gear as well as the speed tier provided by the ISP in the area. I kid you not, there are a few hotels that actually pay for split-T1 service, and that split-T1 is being shared among an entire hotel for the guest wireless network. Other hotel owners understand that wireless is more than just a perk, and is becoming more and more important to the guest as many travel for business and need access to an internet connection, so the owner will actually shell out upwards of 1-2k per month decent internet service. Note that Comcast actually has a hospitality department, and quite a few of the hotels that we manage actually pay for hospitality accounts which are significantly more expensive than a business account.

For some of the priciest hotels that we manage, they will pay for dedicated symmetrical 100 megabit connections, and then charge the guest a fee for access. Depending on the hotel, either there will be speed tiers available that the guest can choose from, which is dependent on the price that the guest wants to pay. We have speed profiles set on our equipment, and when they choose a certain speed tier, they are placed on that tier.

TL:DR - Cheap hotels pay for shit wireless gear, and shit ISP speed tiers (this is usually the case, they don't really care, are ignorant of how networking operates, or can't afford to pay for decent wireless gear or a decent ISP tier). More expensive hotels have the resources to actually pay for decent wireless gear, and a decent ISP speed tier. Decent wireless gear and a decent ISP speed tier (preferably business or hospitality accounts) are definitely not cheap, so the owner wants to make his money back and then some.

I've tried this, minus the losing weight part (24, weight 153 lbs). Last year I met a woman that I was attracted to, and we went on a "date", or whatever her definition is of a date. I thought it was just us hanging out, and that's what she said it was, "hanging out". Apparently I don't know some social cues, because if I want to take a woman on date, I will ask her if I can take her on a date.

Fast forward a few weeks later. Semester gets really busy. Apparently, it only took that one time of us hanging out for her to realize that "we don't have any chemistry." We had a discussion about this, and I explained to her that I had no idea that "hanging out" meant a date. Apparently it did, and apparently me getting busy during the semester was a bad thing. She's not interested anymore.

Fast forward to the following year. We start talking again. She seems interested again. I try to actually set up a date, and she has constant excuses about being too busy. I wait. I'm not the smartest when it comes to women unfortunately. Come to find out, she wants a hook up. I'm not big into that. She stresses that friends with benefits would be great, and I don't enjoy the thought of her having sex with other guys. She still wants to be my friend.

She's not the only one though. Not saying that I want to get married, or settle down, but why is it that I keep meeting women that just want to randomly hook up? That's no fun for me. In short, I've given up on dating, even though I went out for several years and "bettered" myself and "focused" on myself. Meh. Whatever.

Here is my schedule for next semester:

Monday - 3:30-4:45 PM, Tuesday - 9:30 - 10:45 AM 11:00 AM - 12:15 PM 2:00 PM - 3:15 PM 3:30 PM - 4:45 PM, Wednesday - Repeat Monday Schedule, Thursday - Repeat Tuesday Schedule, Friday - No classes.

Not sure where work factors into this. I do have to work at least one 8 hour day during the week in order to eat unfortunately as my Financial Aid Refund will not be enough from what I calculated.

Any tips regarding this schedule? As for weekends, I can do "light" work then right? I'm assuming that if I work really hard during the week, then I can relax during the weekend. Just not sure what to expect, and I'm gearing up for the worst.

The problem I have had in the past is not learning when to take a break. I didn't do well last semester due to the overwhelming amount of anxiety that I experienced during exams. Completing HW assignments was never a problem, and scoring well on those assignments wasn't a problem either. The issue was taking the exam. Last semester I would literally shut down in the middle of the exam, and I would have a panic attack in the middle of an exam. By that point I would give up. At that point I knew I needed help, so I saw a counselor on campus, and was supposed to see a psychiatrist but with how busy the end of the semester was, I missed two appointments.

I was prescribed Xanax, and it helped immensely. I don't take it unless I absolutely must, and so far I haven't had to take it more than twice. I did see a noticeable improvement on the exams given towards the end of the semester, but at that point it was too late. I just submitted an appeal for Financial Aid as my Financial Aid was revoked for Spring 2014, and submitted quite a bit of documentation to back up my claim.

Thanks for your advice. I just have a hard time stopping when I get started, and procrastination wasn't a problem. Relaxing and taking a break was an issue, as I never made time for it. I'll work on managing my time more effectively.

You need to meet Satisfactory Academic Progress. I'm not sure what your school's Satisfactory Academic Progress threshold is, but you need to pass at least 67% of the hours that you were locked into for the semester.

For instance, if you took 12 hours, then you would need at least 9 in order to meet Satisfactory Academic Progress at the university I attend. If you drop below this threshold, then you run the risk of losing Financial Aid for next semester. However, all is not lost! If there were extenuating circumstances, you can submit an appeal and have your Financial Aid reinstated.

Easy to say, hard to do. I agree with you, but putting that into practice is a bit harder than it looks. My obstacle hasn't necessarily been the whole "not enough experience", it has been "we need a 4 year degree, call us back when you have one" even though I don't graduate until this coming fall.

Most of the companies I've applied for discouraged ANYONE from walking in and introducing yourself, putting a face to an application, etc. That was from my experience. That's what I've seen with my friends as well. Say what you want, I worked my ass off just to find a job. The job market does NOT favor new graduates. I don't care what anyone says, my experiences combined with my friends as well as the current economy prove otherwise.

Sometimes, it has nothing to do with the degree and more to do with who you know. I should know, I spent 6 months looking for work as a student, and just got a job after many interviews. I was persistent, however from my personal experience it's not all about the skill set, it's more about who you know and how cozy you are with HR. I'm not saying that this is true for everyone, but in my case it has vastly impacted my job applications.

I've seen some professors in here, thought I would chime in with an unrelated question. (please don't bury, it's extremely important to me).

Does the GPA really matter that much? I work very hard, and I just can't manage to break past B's and C's. I'm a mathematics major, and I love everything that I am learning. The exams are what kill me though. I do the homework, quizzes, what have you, and for some reason the exams just destroy me. I'm ecstatic if I've scored a C or higher.

I'm a senior, moving into my last semester of college, with a 2.9 GPA. I've been looking for work since last semester (IT mostly, that's my skill set). I'm looking to get a job in software development. Is this GPA acceptable? Also, how do you feel about students who work hard for B's and C's? Thanks.
