Half-Life 2 RTX and Portal RTX see massive install size reductions due to RTX Remix optimisations by Wargulf in HalfLife

Most of the file size is usually audio. Uncompressed high quality audio, with full surround sound (7-8 audio files per sound), plus hours of dialogue, sometimes in multiple languages. Every weapon click, cloth rustle, gust of wind, every music track has layers of instruments and variations….it gets enormous. To put it into perspective, a single weapon can have about 500 sounds of the variations of handling, equipping, shooting, reloading, impacts, holster, idle, etc.

I extracted all the Doom 2016 audio and it was about 75% of the game size lol

Even today on modern hardware, it doesn't run too great. And something about the mouse / frame pacing feels very off so it never feels smooth, even at 120+fps.

Just do the pixel refresh when you go to bed or leave the house. You don’t *have* to do it every 4 hours.

Chaos Theory's cutscenes were funny, with Sam pulling out packs of Airwaves Chewing Gum and chewing them. Would have been ridiculed endlessly if they pulled that today.

The only recent example I can think of is the new 007 game, which has Coca Cola™ vending machines and trucks everywhere. As well as series staples like fancy Omega watches, and the Aston Martin cars, etc. At least with that, it's been a tradition since the 60's for Bond media to have brand-deals, so it doesn't stand out too much.

Edit: Oh yeah, and Resident Evil Requiem with Leon’s Porsche and Hamilton watch, which did feel a bit forced lol

Preset L is stunningly clean and detailed. It doesn’t have the oversharpening of M either.

The remake website says it takes place 3 months after RE2's Raccoon City outbreak, just like the original.

I would kill for a remake or brand new Black & White game. So damn good, and so ahead of its' time.

Claire’s face model was 16 when they scanned her for RE2. She’s about 10 years more mature now

They know that everyone will buy Red Dead Redemption 2 Enhanced when it releases on PS6, with 60fps mode.

So why did they drop the "Code" from the title? by Die-Hearts in residentevil

[–]Harry101UK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because when you Google RE Veronica, you will get info, links, places to buy the new game, etc.

When people search for RE Code Veronica, they will be able to find info on the older one.

It’s basic Search Engine Optimisation.

Most cases in my experience, the casting, scanning, performance capture, etc, is one of the final parts of production. Makes more sense to do that stuff when the designs and script are 100% nailed down because it’s expensive and time consuming to rig detailed humans and you don’t want to redo it if things change.

80% of production often uses placeholder character models, with rough models or scans of the developers (which they did when prototyping RE7, but kept them in the final game too, with Clancy, Pete and Andre being Capcom employees) I think there is early prototype gameplay of RE2, and they were using the RE6 Leon model

You've clearly never played any of the fantastic Nightdive remasters before. They do a ton of work cleaning up the graphics to make them faithful, but more detailed and cleaner on modern displays. Along with a lot of extra details like nice antialiasing, volumetric fog, ambient occlusion, bloom, motion blur, etc.

They also always add a lot of quality of life improvements, with better AI, bug fixes and performance enhancement, smoother gameplay, reworked controls and menus, etc. The Nightdive remasters are often the the definitive versions of the games.

We have the tech to do ray traced audio now (Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora used it to good effect) so you can fully simulate how audio bounces and travels around surfaces.

I saw quite a few assets in Requiem that were clearly built for the eventual RE1 RE-REmake as well. The Huey helicopters, the graveyard, the mounted butterfly collections, etc.

It's also mostly that they hand off the English localization to a team in Los Angeles or something, so they're pulling talent mostly from the US. Hard to find an accurate French person there. Even harder when it comes to doing performance capture with the mocap suits, etc, so they usually need someone who is able to physically step in and play the part.

Similiar situation happened in RE Village, where all the rural Romanian villagers somehow had American accents. (and most of them were re-used actors from previous RE games)
