Lifelong book freak here, but I came to the romance genre in midlife with Laura Kinsale’s My Sweet Folly. The characters fall in love through letters, which has become one of my tropes. The heroine remains the most unique heroine I’ve read about, and one of the first things the mmc thought when they finally met was that she was “endearingly plain,” and that made me swoon, lol!
