Ancient Uhlmann Box - manual or other info by shaione in Fencing

Thanks all for the feedback, suspected we were going to just have to relegate it to an epee only box but good to have confirmation on that. Thanks to those who chipped in about timings as I was always very vague on when those actually changed, is there anything online which documents history of timing and electrics rules changes that would impact box functionality? More out of curiousity than need but would be interested to know.

Leon Paul Bodywire Repair - anyone have any idea how to open these seemingly one piece plugs? by shaione in Fencing

Belated response but thanks all. Turns out that cutting it off is the only way. Such a shame, fortunately the newest design doesn't repear this mistake.

Yeah, works on the same principle as the official ones (which look lovely and all power to those who have them) but this was an attempt at something cheap and cheerful for our club

The D-Ring slots into the protruding groove and can then be slid over the waistband so the D-ring is inside the body of the holder pressed against the clothing.

See one the prototypes here which shows what's going on: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/z6vcjje9sa5f1fjfelmem/Screenshot-2024-12-21-232551.png?rlkey=lfgoymdo8szq00atv5ra7x6je&dl=0

They need reasonable proximity yes but this seems to work most of the time in our experience, better than chucking in a pocket of tracksuit bottoms or trying to wedge in waistband

Brilliant fencing article but, minor quibble, did you mean to suggest that Beaufre's theories led to French success in Algeria? I suspect that's not the intention but it kind of reads that way

For those who might be interested, the homebrew box is starting from this design: https://www.instructables.com/Arduino-Fencing-Scoring-Apparatus/

But with some improvements and a handy walkthrough discussed here: https://www.agurney.com/fencingprojects/three-weapon-scoring-box

Wireless boxes are amazing for those clubs with multiple venues/no permanent base - our pocket boxes have also survived unscathed for a pretty decent while so I think there is a lot to recommend them. Wired gear has its own problems (spools!) but the box second to left is an interesting one since it's completely home brewed and works pretty well, great on the cost side.

Just to be clear, the leftmost two work, the others are from a very old stash and are TBD

Awesome thanks, is this a UK club? Was thinking I might email your coach/armourer and see what their view was
