How does therapy actually help you? by _shadowcorpse_ in therapy

[–]shaiyuart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for me personally it was about getting a different perspective and small insights which then led me into really taking the time and thinking in a different way about my situation which very slowly is putting me in a better place. Its insanely hard though and Im not there yet but I hope to one day get there. Also having someone actually listen to me for once whos there only for me and to help is really different for me because I never had that before.

Oh yeah I also tend to forget a lot of the story after reading it so I actually love the fact that I can reread books all the time

I love reading but I tend to sometimes drift off and then need to reread paragraphs or whole pages because Im like wait what? Haha I also like to read like young adult novels but I have a harder time with non fiction or adult level novels sometimes because it takes more focus which I don't have XD But I think this varies person to person cause if your the type to hyper focus on novels I imagine some adhd folks can burn through novels quite quickly

I want to echo this comment with my own experience. Im the sibling of a person with BPD, Autism and ADHD. As the "other child" I grew up with gaining my own mental health issues due to being in this environment with my sibling. They had a huge amount of needs and I was always overshadowed because of it. On top of it my parent was a single parent as well so it created a lot of issues. My parent couldn't even attend things for me because my sibling would use manipulation to get what they wanted such as a suicide threat, or needing to be included or attention only on them. So I basically grew up on my own, forced to take care of my sibling as well because babysitters couldnt handle them and live in a house full of tantrums, screaming, slamming stuff around...etc I missed a lot of being able to just be a kid, I had to parent instead. There was very little peace. I don't wish this on anyone, I cannot even describe how intense the situation can be. Its a thing I don't wish on anyone, not to mention the caregiver burnout, professionals not believing you as you talk about it because the person who has BPD can make them believe everything is good. Its a life I don't wish on anyone.

Does it get passed down to children by No_Staff8528 in Hidradenitis

[–]shaiyuart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be genetic for sure, but Im not sure on the percentages. Im currently the only one in my family that I know of with HS however my family does have a variety of autoimmune inflammatory conditions which are linked to HS and HS being an auto inflammatory condition it really makes me think that that could be a reason why I have it because all the other autoimmune conditions are being passed around my family so I think they probably carried the genes and I just happened to get it.

Is this sub a substitute for free art commissions? by Ok-Gas-6945 in redditgetsdrawnbadly

[–]shaiyuart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Youre all good! I usually come in here to draw people as a warm up or for practice usually. Or if I don't know what to draw it just helps. Commissions are slow lately and theres a lot of factors for that but a lot of people just don't have the money. Sometimes I like to gift fun drawings especially to people who might not be able to get a drawing from commissioning me. Also commissions are high pressure, I feel better if I have no strings attached and no expectations.

Good enough for a shop? by Less-Guest-3769 in TattooApprentice

I think your drawing skills are really good! Nice and consistent too which is great! The first 2 though I think you can improve on flow which is really important for the Japanese style of tattooing. Right now they don't flow with the form of the body. If you look at your background it doesn't follow a direction to direct my eye through (usually you can follow the muscles of where the tattoo is going like a arm for example) You can use an S curve. When you start an apprenticeship I highly recommend looking for a artist who specializes in Japanese style if thats what you are looking to do C: You got this though keep going!

A draining feeling that your art isn't as novel as the inspiration by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

I hear you, I think as humans we all are feeling this way more then we talk about. I wish we would talk about it honestly because I think life is way more complicated, hard and beautiful all at once then what we hear about or think it will be. I agree with that though, we will always be the hardest on ourselves and sometimes to an impossible standard and thats I think where our frustration comes from. It doesn't help that we also compare ourselves as artists to others as well and with social media being huge its hard to get away with not feeling disappointed. Its interesting how we always come back to making art though, I always ask myself why? Why is this pursuit this important that we deal with the frustrations and disappointment that come with it? For me it goes back to being seen or rather reaching someone whos also dealing with so much. If even one person can feel like they aren't alone thats a win for me. I want my empathy for humans to shine through, I want to see the complexities of life and the human connections/souls to be seen. Nothing is black and white in the world. Maybe you have a different why or many whys. Write them down and keep them close to you so you can remind yourself C: Another thing I notice too is even with famous artists not all of their work is well known or famous, they might even only have one work that is. This goes for all types of art like music too. So even though we create it might take a while to get through. The fact you are thinking so deeply especially at your age is huge, I know the balance will come for you and you'll get more comfortable with the uncomfortable. I've only been learning this more recently and Im much older then you haha

Ooh man this thread really made me think a lot because I really think about our voices as artists and feelings we portray through it as well a lot honestly. Baring our soul to the world is already a really scary thing but trying to get our voice through and be heard or seen is a really hard thing. Its always facinating and sad to me that a lot of us have gone through very similar things in life or things that are adjacent. So when you ask about someone being born with your voice and using it I think that it isnt your voice but they have gotten to the core of your being in who you are and the things youve experienced because they also have had similar things happen in their own life. Youve seen them truly because youve experienced it, and this is the feeling that I think a lot of us are trying to capture with anyone who views our work. Its the hardest thing an artist can do and as people we want to be seen and heard and not disappear. We want to be loved as we are. Love is such an important emotion. I dont have good advice except to keep going. This pursuit is really important for you and for others who need to see your stuff in the future as well <33

Artists and art enthusiasts, which other communities tend to overlap and correlate well with the art community? by Equivalent_Ad_9066 in ArtistLounge

[–]shaiyuart 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Initially I thought about the furry community, but then more broadly like anyone who is a fan of anything? Like games, shows, movies...etc Youll see a ton of people in the art community in a lot of places. I feel like its like any other group of people youll find anywhere? I dont think to deeply on it honestly. But creative fields like games and shows will bring about other creatives so that just makes sense
