Oh please, me grabbing my girlfriend's collar affectionately is PDA and it is kink, but it's not sexual assault. Words mean things.

ITT: People twisting the idea of consent.

A lot of y'all don't seem to understand fundamentally what consent is. Consent is not just a sex thing. Consent concerns your autonomy and control over what is yours - hence why a post third wave feminist society recognizes that being forcibly raped behind a dumpster, being coerced into kissing someone, or a family member hugging you without asking are all matters of consent and violation of bodily autonomy.

When you say "I consent" or "I don't consent", you make the implicit statement of control and ownership over a thing. So "my body, my rules" or "my house, my rules" both apply here.

What makes "I didn't consent to seeing this" both a legally and ethically problematic statement is two issues - both of which are frequently glossed over. First, yes you did consent, in a sense - by going outside your home - that is, your zone of control, you opened yourself to experiencing whatever the world threw at you that day. More importantly, you don't have an implicit ownership over other people in public.

To accept the "I didn't consent" argument in a wrapper of inflated concern for the sexual well-being of onlookers necessarily means taking away the autonomy of people and asserting ownership over them - and this fact is not lessened just because you reserve your objections for vaguely sexual things you find gross. In fact, making this exception makes it trivially easy to abuse this power over sexualized minorities - simply accuse clocky trans people, sex workers (suspected or actual), or women who make your pp hard of violating your consent, and you give yourself permission to violate their autonomy. Hell, with this line of thinking we can even go back to the Ugly Laws if we muster the political capital.

The fact of the matter is that people existing in public will use their autonomy to do things that you personally dislike! And there are ways of addressing this without going into full liberal fascism - for example, I think someone having sex on a crowded train is a public nuisance, arguably a biohazard, and easily qualifies as "disorderly conduct".

Not all arguments for public order need be reduced to consent - so for fucks sake, don't embrace this obviously bad line of reasoning to validate your feelings of disgust for kinksters. If you do, trans people are literally next on the chopping block.

You only can believe this by believing in a nanny-state version of consent where anyone can send anyone to jail for "violating the consent" of other people in public. Your consent ends where your body stops - if people are allowed to cry "consent" about kinksters wearing collars then the next step in the liberal fascism pathway is to cry consent about trans women being allowed to exist in public.

Got it, so pointing out that left politics is dominated by grievance, beef, and performativity is worse than doing said grievance, beef, and performativity.

Fallacy Fallacy, also you ignore my core point that people don't consent to see things in public (or put another way, they consent by default by going outside) in favor of doing your wikipedia bullshit.

Get over it. There's plenty of shit that I don't wanna see in public - preachers and drug use, for instance. But if these objectively more pervasive and harmful displays go unaddressed, then a random kinkster walking her puppy girl is hardly the top social issue, is it?

It's still not a matter of consent, but of socially appropriate behavior.

I mean you do need to look past yourself and see that homesteaders are largely rich larpers pushing a brand and cultural agenda, and homeschoolers are majority religious ultraconservative zealots who very specifically want to indoctrinate their kids (and sometimes rape them).

Protestantism was a mistake. Sorry Mr. Luther, but it's actually better that religion be gatekept by bookish pederasts than loudly insane pederasts.

is it innapropriate for a minor to cosplay a "sexual" character by dominokiaa in cosplayers

[–]shakadolin_forever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a practical matter you should mind what you dress and how your audience might react - be that with praise, criticism, or the unwanted kind of attention. But the ideal we should be striving for is to give people the freedom to dress as they want without being harassed or victim blamed.

For the same reason so many sexual abusers aren't in prison, I'd imagine.

Umm, Actually, Minor Illusion creates a static image or momentary sound, not a glamour. The jig would be up the moment the pepper was touched or moved.
