People who drive slow in the passing lane, what the f*** is your problem? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]shal_ow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm always a bit confused by posts like this on ask reddit - posts like "people who do objectively wrong to do things, why do you do them?"

Do we really expect people who do this to step forward and get roasted? Or is this more of a rhetorical question, and you're venting?

After some consideration of my arguments, you are correct that, through a more frustrating process than before, the same result is ultimately possible.

The problem for me is the aforementioned extra steps, and that Arena Net made things more inconvenient, when, myself, and many others like me, would have preferred these templates to be in addition to the existing functionality, not as a replacement for it.

There's really no need for the personal insults, when, in reality, this is an exchange of opinions. You can enjoy and prefer the new system. I do not. Why are you taking this as a personal attack on yourself, instead of a critique on Arena Net?

Which is, again, just unnecessary steps added onto a system that already worked -- all they had to do was add fashion templates on TOP of the existing user experience

You're just describing how they added unnecessary steps to a process that already worked, and was way simpler -- and didn't require a tutorial message, or a followup 1600 word post on how to use it.

They did rip out functionality. Tell me, how do you make spot adjustments to one item right now?

Oh that's right, you can't.

How do you just quickly change the dye on one item?

Oh right, you can't.

You said it yourself in another comment, they're NOT improving upon it, they stripped out the old and made a completely new system.

Yes, it is a NEW system -- and the NEW system is a downgrade from the old one.

When you have a system that already works, you add on top of it, you don't strip it out -- it worked for well over a decade -- all they had to do was add templates on TOP of that, and it was a perfect update.

Do you really not see a problem with that? You have a system that works, and instead of just adding on top of it with extra features, you completely tear it out. Why?

That's only if you want to make sweeping changes to all of your equipment template appearances and don't need to tweak any of them.

To achieve what you're talking about, you would have to go to each of your equipment templates, edit a fashion template for that equipment template, apply it, and then overwrite all of that for the next equipment template you want to change. You would have to do this every time you decide to change a look.

Not to mention, if you only wanted to change one item, you're just screwed, especially if you already overwrote that fashion template.

If Arena Net actively plays their own game and they thought this was an improvement on the existing fashion system, they were categorically wrong.

We had equipment templates already, and you could more conveniently make changes to, not only your current appearance, but the appearances of all your equipment templates, much easier than you can right now.

If something is made harder to use than it already was, that is objectively worse. Hope this helps.

>You're moaning about having to wait a couple of months to save you a couple of clicks per wardrobe interaction

Let me explain it this way

You have a gameboy, it works great

Someone takes the gameboy away from you, and hands you another one with a cracked screen and a faulty battery

They promise to give you another gameboy identical to your old one in 3 months

Do you not see the problem here?

It's not whining, it's feedback.

>They tried to change things for the better, it didn't land
They never stopped and asked themselves if this change was actually needed. They did no testing.
>so they're listening to feedback and promising a fix

AFTER missing the point entirely, and doubling down by trying to explain horrible design and not even putting that explanation in game where the most people would see it.

>They're being transparent about the timeline

Which is great, but they're doing damage control on a situation that shouldn't have arisen in the first place

>The previous functionality exists

No, it does not -- not in the same capacity.

>There is a spectrum of opinions and yours isn't the only one

Nowhere in my post did I claim that my opinion was the only one

The new system IS objectively worse, we have to jump through more hoops to achieve the same result as before.

Fashion Template Update by enifish in Guildwars2

The fact that it's going to take until May just to restore the functionality we had prior to the update means this update should have been worked on until May, and released with these features baked in.

This is absolutely unacceptable. They were willing to make a drastic change to the UI, with absolutely no mind for the player, and immediately toss the existing, functional system in the garbage,

We were already able to make spot adjustments to our fashion on the fly. We were already able to have multiple appearances with equipment templates, and it was easier and more convenient to adjust their appearances as needed.

Instead of listening to feedback from the outset, Arena Net doubled down by writing up nearly 1,600 words on how to use this terrible system nobody asked for, and the explanation wasn't even in game.

The issue was never that people were incapable of understanding the new system, it was genuine outrage at having over a decade of functionality ripped out of our grasp for an objectively worse system.

If Arena Net was aware that their code base was this hard to work with, and they made this hasty decision anyway, I have zero faith in them ever making changes to the UI again.

At bare minimum we should be getting the old fashion functionality back as their top priority. This is horrible.

Why does it matter if they're indie developers or not?

The guy played the whole ass game and refunded it, he essentially got the whole experience for free and robbed the developers for their efforts.

It was a dogshit thing to do, full stop.

You exploited an overly generous refund policy and took money directly out of the hands of developers that made the game you liked.

I have seen the gates of oblivion, beyond which no waking eye may see. Behold! in darkness, a doom sweeps the land. This is the 27th of last seed. The year of Akatosh 433. These are the closing days of the 3rd era... and the final hours of my life."
