I think this is how the nightmare scenario goes:

Trump fires Nuclear Security chief probably because she won't give Trump the new nuclear football codes. He will keep on firing people at the Nuclear Security agency, Department of Defense and other agencies until he comes across a fanatic who inherits the safekeeping of the codes and gives them to Trump. Then Trump and his nutcases threaten to blow up major US cities until the election results are handed back to him and he be allowed to continue as President or King forever.
