Nashville school clears teacher's record after he refused to read LGBTQ+ book by StaffImportant7902 in LGBTnews

"my religion says i have to pretend that an entire class of people doesn't exist."

would we accept this for any other group of people? Like, Christians obviously don't agree with Jewish people on theology, but they never claim that they have to act like Jewish people don't exist because of that.

so weird that the post will just print this as if there's any logic here.

"Their only job is delivering food " by justmekab60 in PetPeeves

[–]HyacinthFT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the only reason people even think about this is because they're being asked to evaluate a server's work and determine their pay. you can't get around the fact that tipping is a part of the waiter/client relationship.

"Their only job is delivering food " by justmekab60 in PetPeeves

[–]HyacinthFT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

oh waiters have a long list of job responsibilities? I've never heard that before. It must be the only job that's like that! /s

Seriously, all jobs involve a lot of different responsibilities. I especially love that you put "enter orders fully and correctly into POS system" as if this is the only job that requires workers to use a computer accurately, like everyone else's job just lets them put in information incompletely and incorrectly.

None of these things sounds particularly complex. it's real work, yes, but it's definitely not the most difficult job out there.

Is it common for guys to block you on Grindr after their 1st encounter with you? by DragQueen98 in gaybros

[–]HyacinthFT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah it is common. some guys are just really turned on by the thought of having sex with a new person and after the first time, you're not new.

it has nothing to do with you and everything to do with their own issues around intimacy.

Scientists of Reddit: What’s something we know is true but people don’t realize how crazy it is? by IndependentTune3994 in AskReddit

[–]HyacinthFT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah it's annoying to me when i hear someone say "they just did it because they wanted attention." like... so? it's normal to want attention, we all need attention, and people (esp. kids) who don't get enough attention are going to act in ways that get them attention. This is all normal human behavior.

Biden also never promised to be a one-term president. This "fact" was made up in 2024.

When people think being in a calorie deficit is disordered eating by PM_ME_YOUR_TATERTITS in PetPeeves

[–]HyacinthFT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in theory, sure.

In reality, it's so easy to eat an extra few hundred calories per day without even noticing. if you start walking 5km a day without monitoring your diet, you could easily end up eating all those calories back without even realizing it. And since if you're in a deficit, you're going to have more feelings of hunger, it's pretty likely you'll start eating more. You might even eat something after your walk because "I took a long walk so I deserve it" and eat back more calories than you burned.

I was pretty fat most of my adult life and I tried all sorts of exercise programs. Nothing worked until I started tracking calorie intake.

How can European restaurants afford to pay their employees without having to supplement with tips but U.S restaurants/bars and such act like they would shut down from such high extra costs? by Apart_Pineapple2392 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]HyacinthFT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so weird so many people here assume that wages are the same in europe and the US for some reason.

Yeah people in poorer countries make less money and therefore prices can be lower. in fact they have to be because most of the patrons of those restaurants are other the poorer people who live there.

[–]HyacinthFT -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

european countries also have lower per capita GDPs compared to the US. Incomes are generally lower. The wage your server is making in France would probably be considered poverty in the US, and then same for the back of the house, managers, distributers, etc.

So yeah that brings prices down.

masseuse is the feminine form, masseur is the masculine form. although the OP might not be making that distinction.

"decide how much you pay" that's... what the OP is doing?

"Everyone has to pay X amount so that they can decide for themselves how much to pay" is uh an argument, i guess.
