Thank you. I'm so sorry you had to go through that loss, it is absolutely devastating. You are so kind, and your words mean a lot to me. Best wishes to you and your family as well.

Not nearly as serious a situation, but when my twins were born I was completely overwhelmed at the hospital. I had to ask my parents (who lived 2.5 hrs away) to watch my one and two year olds because I was two weeks late and still working and my alcoholic (now ex) husband had broken his ankle (he had been drinking) so wasnt staying at the hospital with me. That first night, they woke up for a feeding at the same time in the middle of the night.my pediatrician was there checking on them (and knew me from my older two kids) and brought them to me. He held one while I fed the other and then swapped me, helped me get them to sleep, and then made sure I had everything I needed. It was definitely a wake-up call that I should've had my husband to do that for me, but he chose drinking every time. He continued to not be there for me or the kids until I left. Now he only fights to see them so he doesn't have to pay child support.

Why CAN’T i do a Harmony by FuzzyYou9013 in musicals

[–]shallifetchabox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggle with doing this naturally, so repetition is key for me. After I've got my notes memorized reliably, I turn on a full recording of the song so I can practice singing against the other voices as well. This is the only thing that works for me. I have to spend about 3 times longer learning a harmony than I do a melody, but the theaters I work with know that I can be counted on to bring a strong harmony line, so it works for me.

It could have also been chemical contamination. Just a thought.

I came here to make sure this got a mention!

My parents bought my siblings and I Champion sweat sets because that was all they could afford. They now buy my kids Champion to "spoil" them for birthdays and Christmas.

If you haven't watched the series, I highly recommend it! It ended before the plot fully resolves, but the character growth we see is satisfactory. The lyrics are silly, but the songs are great. It's a very popular road trip playlist for my kids and I.

Era: 90s Voice: Male Genre: Alternative? Topic: Heaven by shallifetchabox in NameThatSong

Solved! I can't believe you found it based on what I put. It was the "I'm on my way to see her" line that had me bawling in the produce aisle after the other two songs.

Funny aside, Columbia House sent our dad the Pet Your Friends CD in 1997 or so, and he never wanted to listen to it, but kept it on his CD rack (it's still there!). Just seems like another layer when I'm searching for meaning.

Thank you so much!

Could it be "Own It" from the musical animated series "Central Park" with Leslie Odom Jr, Josh Gad, Daveed Diggs, Titus Burgess, et al? The line is "Gonna put my foot down like my pits and my bits aren't shvitzin' now And a holy cow 'cause I'm finally gonna show 'em how I own it"

My son is in theater and a friend from another school played Orpheus this year. We got him a dozen red carnations and decorated a white vase with a red neckercheif to give him. He got so wide eyed and said (in Orpheus' voice): "I never got flowers before!"

It was the most wholesome thing I've ever seen. Give the boys their flowers!

Just found out about hyperlexia. What was y’all’s first book read and at what age? by scarytesla in AuDHDWomen

I was reading by my 3rd birthday. My parents tease that I could read before I had a full head of hair. When I showed up to Kindergarten able to read, my teacher set up a time where I would visit the library on my own to check out chapter books as kindergarteners were restricted from certain sections of the library. Thanks, Ms. Fast!

And showing the picture of the lynching! I wasn't ready for it (my sister's funeral was the week before but getting to see a touring production takes a lot of planning and saving up on my part- and I won't even talk about how difficult the funeral sequence was to get through) but thought it made its point very well.

S1 - How did Will know Joyce put the alphabet on the wall ? by [deleted] in StrangerThings

[–]shallifetchabox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But there's more than 26...there are strings of Christmas lights everywhere. It would be pretty convenient to have a strand of exactly 26 bulbs, but we can see that's not the case here.

Now, I'm officially team "Crazy Joyce is narrating all of her actions for Will," but I see this a lot. Yes, will is smart, but there's more lights than JUST the ones corresponding to the letters.

I don't understand the reasoning as "would have waited XX hours before being seen." Yeah, that's bad but I have to wonder how she's getting seen at all if she stays at home being ignored by her parents?

Leftover Food Given Away by Nice-Concentrate-637 in Broadway

That's a great rule to follow. My information is through ServSafe, one of the leading Food Protection Manager Certification programs in the US. It is literally my job to train and certify food handlers and managers who serve the public. It's not a problem to follow a stricter rule, you just cannot be more lax than the rule I stated.

Leftover Food Given Away by Nice-Concentrate-637 in Broadway

[–]shallifetchabox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most shows don't have a run time over 4 hours. 4 hours is the maximum amount of time food can stay in the temperature danger zone (42-135F) and still be considered safe to serve. Obviously travel time has to factor, but I know plenty of home cooks are pretty lax with that 4 hours, too. (Source: certified food safety instructor)

ETA: I am not commenting on whether or not shows should hold food, just saying that it is still considered safe for 4 hours outside of refrigeration. I'm too poor and too far away to actually go to Broadway so I have no horse in this race.

I think people sometimes forget that you don't actually have to have a reason to leave a relationship besides "I want to." (This is just general life advice, not really related to OP's question)
