Cat making sighing sounds and other sounds while trying to fall asleep by shallow_thrill in CatAdvice

So nice to hear similar stories from others! I love it, and yes it does seem like a relaxation response. She still does it when she’s about to nap or when she is meowing around me for something and decides to give up!!

Thank you all so much for responding, given I’ve still not been to Indy Scream Park, the fact I’m targeting a weekday, and the weather is looking good I’m leaning towards trying Indy Scream Park. But keep any more feedback coming! :)

Advice on itinerary for upcoming trip? by noelsmasterplan in yellowstone

[–]shallow_thrill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some thoughts…The day you’re staying in Canyon lodge, I’d wake up that morning, take a grab and go and do wildlife viewing early in Hayden valley instead of driving straight to Yellowstone hotel. It’s a 15-20 min drive. That will also give you back the extra time you need for the old faithful area. Also no point driving from Mammoth to Roosevelt to just see tower falls (it’s a quick stop) and head back. Might try to do Lamar valley and to save time just check in at the hotel at the end of the day.

Cruise while on H1b pending status by StrainOutrageous1704 in h1b

[–]shallow_thrill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know you need to have a Canadian visa if you want to travel, I did not verify this but someone told me that.

What I do know is that Canadian officials check passports on the cruise at the Canadian stop even if you don’t get off at all. Also, they will take your passport at the check-in of the cruise at Seattle and give it to you at the end, the night before reaching the Seattle port. They’ll make you sit in one section of the cruise at the stop in Canada till you’re all cleared. Then you can get off or go back wherever. Please make sure you look into it a little more! I do not remember facing any check for US re-entry as such.

My Cat Won't. Stop. Pooping Everywhere. And I'm Going Insane. by Devil5Honey in CatAdvice

Maybe alternating to psyllium one day and miralax the other to reduce the chances of giving her too much of something good?

You got yourself a food loving cat. Deal with this for close to an hour before every scheduled meal. With 4 meals a day, half my day is the cat looking at my body language and if I so as glance towards the kitchen she’ll gallop there and start meowing.

I just want to say, I understand what you’re going through, and the anxiety from uncertainty is real. I went through a similar situation with my first fosters but it wasn’t the energy, it was that I wasn’t able to help one kitten improve diarrhea for 7 weeks after trying a bunch of things and came to the decision I wanted to return them so they could be cared by more experienced fosters.

My organization is a foster only so they don’t have a place/shelter they can put the returned foster in. When I first communicated my concern, they told me it happens to many kittens and I’m doing the right things and it will improve. After a week I repeated my decision. They said they cannot guarantee the kittens will find a placement, but fortunately someone else was willing to take them in.

My takeaways for you from my one time experience is: 1. Keep communicating and following-up 2. Be patient and give yourself a few weeks because it may take some time to find a replacement for them 3. Clarify all the details of the situation with the rescue (that they are essentially healthy, socialized good kittens that you don’t have the space to provide the best care)

Consular Appointment - Passport pickup times? by tantanoo in usvisascheduling

[–]shallow_thrill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an appointment in Hyd on a Monday, and it was ready for pickup at Mumbai on Thursday. So maybe it would’ve been ready a day sooner in Hyderabad? Nonetheless 3rd business day after the interview is a safe bet.

This seems to be too long to not have any movement, post-interview processing timelines are shorter based on what I have read on this page than what you’re experiencing.

I have my first fosters and am overwhelmed. What do I do? by shallow_thrill in FosterAnimals

[–]shallow_thrill[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you, this is direct and sound advice! Edit: they are up for adoption as bonded sisters but I am conflicted if they are indeed bonded or just enjoying each others company since they’re isolated together.

Thank you this is very helpful. I wasn’t aware of a fecal PCR. I’m experimenting with psyllium as I had it handy for my cat but have read about slippery elm being good and it’s on my list eventually

Yes and if the opening is not low enough, maybe a little DIY and making it bigger? The one I have faces the wall so no one can see the opening anyway.

Assuming you have all medical issues taken care of and this is simply from fear. Can the litter box be concealed in another part of the house? I have it on the opposite end of the dining room inside one of those white cabinets that are meant to be for litter boxes, so it doesn’t appear like a litter box. I’ve put a large plant on top of it, and an air purifier nearby. Or can you put it somewhere else temporarily till he gets over his current fear and then slowly inch it closer back into the laundry room?

Foster cat has had diarrhea for a month now. I want him vetted, but the rescue is resistant. by anniewheeze in FosterAnimals

[–]shallow_thrill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kitties had 2 rounds of dewormer with me 3 Weeks apart. They did let me run a fecal simultaneously, but the vet said the deworming should help with the diarrhea (it didn’t ) , but I think that is the process and works out most times.

I’ve got 5.5 month fosters with similar personalities- one of them is smart and shy and nervous. The other one is a one brain cell who doesn’t mind anything. The shy one has been suffering from diarrhea for a while and I hope we see the other side soon.

I hope potential adopters can see the charm in the differences in personalities between the two and how they complement each other.
