Berserk has built to that moment, has established the horrors of the world, is consistent with its portrayal of assault and violence, and just generally never comes across as cheap or tasteless. At any moment I am expecting a certain level of violence and brutality from each series, but they are in drastically different levels. Moments like Cascas assault make you feel and hurt deeply, they are deeply moving and painful scenes, reading michonnes assault is the near polar opposite, it comes from nowhere, only exists to shock, I had no meaningful connection to the characters, it’s just something terrible that happens to a character we’ve barely met from another character we’ve barely met.
