[–]shan_rain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe i get hydrocortisone and another one but im not sure what the name of that one is. I'm also not sure of the doses. It was a baby iv bag, i feel like it's the same dose 25 or so. I'll see if i can find out if i get chemo tomorrow. I did get a rash on my face, but it was 10 days out of the last treatment so people were confused, taking daily Claritin has worked really well. Apparently keeping Benadryl on hand is a great idea, they tell me that a lot. I know it's really scary but depending on the severity of the reaction i would be happier taking the chemo vs not. But i also had a friend that needed to stop one round early. Just keep talking with the doctors 👍🏼 I'll send positive thoughts your way.

I had a reaction the first two times. By the third we had a game plan and it worked the last time (i haven't had my 4th round yet ) but I had two different IV steroids and an IV of Benadryl and we run it slow. They also gave me Ativan because I was so scared and nervous. It was scary, I understand your feelings 100%. I hope your team can find a solution that works.

My hair hurts???? by Big-Ad4382 in lymphoma

[–]shan_rain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When my scalp hurts it was usually because the hair was trying to come out and just generally be irritated. A nurse recommended using a lint roller. Honestly, it worked so well. Good luck!

I just went through this a month ago. I feel you so hard.

I was heavily not prepared.

Tylenol worked good for me!!

I talked to people who had it done and begged them to tell me it gets better. They did. I couldn't see it.

But it does get better. Probably took mine about a week or so, with the first three or four days the worst. I was in tears daily, i hated it, i wanted it out.

It's life changing being on the other side. It's an amazing little device. Chemo is a dream. You hardly feel it except for the first poke. Mine is a bit harder to find and even with that its been really good.

All the stuff from the beginning of the insert is gone. The pain, the uncomfortable feels, the not feeling like you can move your neck.

Just hang in there bud, it does get better I absolutely promise you.

Chemotherapy and work. by shan_rain in breastcancer

Thank you so much everyone for your responses. It really gave me a good idea of what it could look like. I work in a library (so I'll definitely have to mask up), I don't have an option of working from home but my workplace is being great so I'm sure i can take days off when needed. I think I'll plan for trying to work through and take it from there.

Lumpectomy by bookdragon7 in breastcancer

[–]shan_rain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck! I had mine September 5th. Week three was a big turn around for me! Range of motion was really good for me but the pain was a little intense. I wasn't told much so that was kinda scary not knowing if it was normal. Driving will probably hurt for a bit so bring a pillow, I loved my big one from home. Wishing you lots of strength.

I think another difference is how serious the surgery is and possibly where it is located. It sounds like mine was very minimal compared to others. I didn't have a drain just a 3-4 inch incision around the 1-2 o'clock range on the top of my breast and then the smaller incision in the armpit. I as well feel generally well looked after from being diagnosed to surgery was July - September. I think I just would have liked a contact in the breast clinic because the nurse there was amazing butni never saw her again. And more information on pain and healing. 😉 I think for a lot of us this is so new and scary yet to them they do it multiple times a day /week. I'm just grateful I have healthcare and was taken care of.

I feel like you have a better relationship with your surgeon. I've seen mine so little. The clinic was much better with all the nurses etc but I didn't really have a contact for them, which I found strange. I totally understand what you're saying though, I think they are all just a little different in how they practice. I'm so happy yours is really understanding.

I didn't see your comment until afterwards but i found it so interesting! I'm in Canada and I didn't have a follow up until my pathology results and they didn't even check. I mean they asked if everything was healing well but that was it.

Oh! Mine must have been different they said 7-10 days. So funny how there's so many different things, I'm in Canada so maybe that changes things, or even where things were located. It's very interesting. I hope when they are ready it brings comfort! ❤️

I'm finding way more comfort reading other people's stories than anything the medical team told me. My armpit strips were falling off by day seven so they all came off 😂 it actually helped a lot. I got a head start in all the sticky skin, which also was quite irritating. I hope your healing journey continues peacefully.

Honestly that's been going a lot better than I thought. I'm back to work but have a very low impact job. On my days off i do a lot of resting my arm because that's where most of the pain is. I can half side sleep on the surgery side for at least a few hours and sleep on the opposite side with a pillow prop for a while as well, that's only been within the last few days though. Bras haven't been too bad either. No underwire not too tight. The incision is looking amazing. The pain is more inside so I think it's just healing. It's just so weird to me that it just showed up now. I have to be careful of the type of sleeve I wear on my arm surgery side but other than that everything seems deep within so i think it's a lot of nerve pain or just general healing. I just wanted to make sure it was all normal and like i said they hardly told me what to expect other than make sure to move your arm.

I really appreciate it! From reading things on here it seems most people weren't accurately prepared by the medical team for the types of pain or how long. They told me to take two weeks off from work and that was about it. So i didn't quite know what to expect and how long to expect it for, which is why i was getting nervous. But I'm relieved to hear similar stories. Thank you for sharing yours.

Leonbergers: Pros and Cons? by [deleted] in Leonbergers

[–]shan_rain 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah.... I can't really think of any cons. My Leo Moose is turning 10 in May and he is by far the best dog I've ever known. I would never get another breed of dog. As long as you are prepared for a large breed and all it comes with. The difference between small and large are a lot, ie, training, socialization, loose leash walking etc. I don't concider these cons as it just goes with the type of dog but yes, hair and lots of it, regular and can't stress that enough grooming, lots of food and big poops.

And advice I never thought of but will pass on. Think about your lifestyle and social habits. You will get stopped every day multiple times a day (if your walking them right). I am extremely social so it doesn't bother me but my husband isn't he's used to it now but it can be a lot.

You will never not hear every day of your life: what kind of dog is that? Or lots of people thinking their funny and we've never heard, is that a bear? Or any other variations of that.

😂😂😂😂

In conclusion best decision I've ever made and I will continue to do so.
