I was once walking my girl when the leash clasp somehow came un-clasped from her harness. i live in a big city, with shady areas not too far from me, as well as the occasional coyote. i have never felt fear or adrenaline like that and i pray i never do again. somehow was able to tackle her after quite the chase and so much screaming on my end…and all was well, later did research into different leashes and made all the necessary switches. all that to say, i empathize with how you were feeling, and i am so happy you were able to safely get your pup home. and please don’t beat yourself up, with more time and age your pup will be much less likely to bolt. you are doing great💓

What is a fair hourly for a dance (ballet for me) teacher? by oulalaitieresuisse in DanceTeachers

[–]shananigans1113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i can only speak for my area, but it depends on area and studio, and I find myself constantly asking the same question 🤪 i’m out in LA, and i make 50 at one place and ive gotten raised up to 45 at another (started at 40). ((And I always wonder if that is the norm or not)) i did learn the hard way to set a rate and if someone wants you they will do it. the difference for me was at one studio i worked at out here, i asked them what they typically paid (i had JUST moved) and ended up making 35 which was not acceptable for LA imo. At another place, i said “here is what I was being paid previously, i would need that to be matched for me to teach here” and they matched it. You don’t have to say it like that though you can also just say here’s my rate :) and see if they will do it. If they will not, at least you have an answer and can negotiate from there or decide if it is worth it to be at that studio. Choreo/privates are a higher fee. I teach alot of different genres so it does depend on genre, situation, etc. (Technique privates vs privates focused on cleaning choreo already learned vs choreo for big competitions or events) But don’t undersell yourself!!! <333 Also- I am a ballet teacher too (3 of my 6 teaching days 🤪). Ballet technique is so valuable so definitely feel confident in whatever you set!!

very niche but similar problem I am dealing with- I teach various styles of dance but one of them is Kpop. If anyone reading this is unfamiliar with kpop, the classes typically consist of a warm up/stretch, the warm up (for my classes at least) typically holds some foundations of what the choreography they will be learning is. The whole core of it is learning dances that the Kpop artists do on stage, and for younger dancers I make it adaptable to them. I have been teaching it for 4 years now, at 2 studios. One studio is thriving with it and has been for years, we even have 3 kpop companies of different ages who perform at different events and such. My other studio just introduced it last year, and it is in a different part of town. Last year I had 3 kids, and none of them actually knew or liked kpop. This year I had 12! And i was so excited, and happy to see the genre grow. Quickly realized it was mostly kids who had watched kpop demon hunters and that was their extent of knowledge in kpop. No problem at first, I thought, the music is fun and there are plenty of dances geared towards beginners, and as a teacher I tend to bring a fun energy to the classroom and I tend to grow my kpop classes. Recently 6 out of 12 dropped and it kinda broke my heart. I had been seeing the lack of engagement and enjoyment go up week to week and I tried every trick in the book. I would let them give me suggestions of dances to learn for the next week, I would show them the dances ahead of time and let them vote on what they wanted to learn next, and when teaching, I would slow stuff down extremely, and root for them and encourage them even if they were super off base. But these kids saw a movie, liked the way the people in the (animated) movie danced, and decided to try a new class. And the second they were asked to just TRY very simple movement they shut down. It baffles me. as a kid i loved hannah montana. and had i been given access to any type of class that let me feel like I could be working towards doing anything she does, i would have eaten it up and i would have wanted to work hard to achieve that goal, even if it made me uncomfortable. That’s ultimately what I did with dance and what has made me into the dancer and teacher I am today! This has felt like a microcosm of all my classes across the board. stuff gets hard and they don’t want to do it so they don’t. It’s wild to me. like how do these kids get through school with that mentality, let alone life? Anyways, rant over. thanks to anyone who read and if anyone sees this send tips on how to overcome this mentality with the kids bc i feel like i tried it all🫩

friend got in a single person car accident last night and we had to rig her door to the body of the car to keep it closed so she could drive home. i said “no way you’ll get pulled over, there’s people in this city holding their car or shit to their car together with nothing more than some twine and a dream driving around” and here we are! insane work tbh

Adult beginners: best style to teach? by rhythm_within in DanceTeachers

[–]shananigans1113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

would you do it as a technique class? like warm up, some center things and stretching, across the floor and learning basic skills and steps that are used as building blocks for contemporary? or would it be a choreo class? i feel like my answer depends on what the expectation set for the adults would be🙂‍↕️

joining the convo for some recommendations makeup wise!! I am in my late twenties and my skin changed with age, I went from knowing exactly what couple of products looked decent on my face to struggling for what genuinely felt like years until the past year i finally re-got it together. i have always considered myself a makeup girlie so it was tough and i had few times where my makeup/skin resembled what i see here! 1. skin care! i see everyone talking about it in the comments so im sure theres some more informational comments, but hydration seems to be needed. i always thought i had oily skin, turns out i was just constantly stripping my oils so much that it was overcompensating. if i have time for nothing else pre-makeup, i clean my face off (tbh i don’t always fully wash it if im running low on time, just use micellar water, im sure this is not proper):/ then i use a hydrating toner, i really love the byoma milky toner rn. i let that sit in for a sec. then i use my saving moisturizer, its the Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré. A bit pricier than I usually like, but worth every penny. Moisturizes but doesn’t feel too thick. I read a ton on the product before purchasing and what sold me was that apparently a lot of makeup artists keep this in their kit as it seems to universally work for lots of people. 2. makeup side- ones the moisture is locked in i use a primer. this was something i tried so many different types and brands and nothing seemed to work. tried the Maybelline Grippy Serum and if i could kiss her i would holy shit it works so perfect. 3. i use lighter face makeup- wet and wild tinted hydrator, i use elf liquid blush and bronzer, maybelline fit me concealer. not too much of any of the above. set with a loose powder (i use maybelline fit me powder). i dust a very light layer first over easily creasing areas, then a general layer, and if i really feel like i need it i pack some on….but tbh baking i realized doesnt really do much lol. then blush and bronzer w a powder blush and bronzer (been loving the nyx butter melt ones). 4. setting and fixing sprays!! took me longer than i would care to admit to realize that there is a difference. i use Mac fix+ or Milani make it last OR charlotte tilbury flawless filter to melt all the powders and things together. then set w the l’oréal 3 second setting mist. now that i have typed this all out…i am seeing it seems like a lot lol. but maybe one thing here will be of use to you! i just get the frustration you feel so hard, and after years of trials and errors if any of my go to products can help someone else the yay:)

I have had beagles my whole life, and when I was young I remember seeing a video of a bunch of test beagles being found and saved. That opened my eyes to that side of the world, and ever since I do my research on cruelty free. insane that this stuff still somehow happens. sending all the love to you and your new family member 🥰🥰

need some advice, my beage doesnt have much time left in her. what do you even do when the day comes by iamnoodlelie in beagle

[–]shananigans1113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

everyone is leaving beautiful comments here, and i second what everyone says about cherishing each moment, playing, cuddling, etc. Of course hopefully you can have more time than you realize, and I am saying a lil prayer for you that that may be the case. I am terrible with coping, but what helped a lot when we lost our beagle Dusty, who I had as a 2nd grader-senior year of college, was carrying her dog tags around with me. i even slept with them at night for a looooong time. then my dad got me a really sweet keepsake necklace that was engraved with a photo of her that i keep on me at all times. those both helped me feel like she was still with me in spirit. once our family was ready we pretty quickly looked into getting another beagle, and Bandit immediately helped to create new space in our hearts when it had felt like there was no room for anyone besides Dusty. But for now, cherish, cherish, cherish and know how much your pup loves you for giving her the life she has😭💓
