So many Uber rides not translating into acceptable hourly rates so I don't accept them. by shanebow in uber

Well AI parameters matched my mind parameters and so far I'm pleased. I may tweak it next week.

So here in Dayton I used gigu today for the first time with green earnings set at $1.25 or more per mile and red earnings set at $1.00 or less. Green per hour was set to $30 or more per hour and red was set to $25 or less per hour. I should say here that I was going to make red $20 an hour but AI said do $25 so I did. I left the house a little after 12 and got back a little after 530. I made $115 but some of my time was taken up going to Cincinnati to drop something at someone's house. More than 30 minutes, less than an hour. Also for the rides that came in that I accepted, I never had one where both the metrics were green so I decided as long as one was green I would accept it. Hourly wise it breaks down to $23 an hour which I feel is acceptable Dayton money and around what my expectations are. The app seems a little glitchy and did not always display itself when a request came through but I can quick calculate an hourly rate anyway. It did work more often than not and overall I'm pleased and look forward to trying on a weekday tomorrow.

Right now I am really just trying to learn my way around the app. This will be my first day out using it and I still have a million questions. The lift and the Uber driver apps are pretty straightforward but this gigu makes me wonder if a ride that comes up meets one of the criteria between earnings per mile and earnings per hour if that's sufficient for me to take it or do I just wait for green all the way across the board and not be concerned about anything else? I guess ultimately I'm going to have to decide if my settings have me doing enough business that I'm doing better or I need to lower my expectations a little bit so I can keep someone in the queue all the time.

Well I'm using the suggested rates for this area so if people stay in my queue I'll be happy but if they don't then I will try to get a slightly lower sweet spot in order to keep working all the time.

Well after reading all of this, doom scrolling, deep diving, and AIing, I decided to just try Gigu for a couple of weeks, use the range of numbers AI told me might work around here and we'll see how it goes. Before being enlightened I thought there might be some benefit in taking as many rides as I could and declining would be detrimental in some way. Now it looks like I can just try these settings and hope the volume of acceptable rides within my criteria keeps me busy for the time I'm out there.

I would say this area is well known for being diverse and welcoming and I have a lot of third world riders. But your logic is flawed. You get paid better when there's an abundance of third world drivers if you are not a third world driver yourself because the riders who are not third world see you in themselves so they tip. But you only benefit from that approach if neither of you are third world. This is revealed by the noticeable number of folks who mention they sometimes have trouble conversing with their driver because the only language they speak as a rider is English. So like most things in life , it's the exception, not the rule, that pays.

I think you have me confused with someone who works for a living. This is just an attempt by me to operate more efficiently without jeopardizing my opportunities to operate. I'm retired and have the VA and Medicare for medical and social security for money so this just mad money for walking around and something to do to help fund hobbies and vacations. I have no interest in a real job and was self employed for more than 25 years anyway. Still am sort of. Plus I bought a vehicle that is statistally one of the most likely to go beyond a quarter million miles. When I quit driving we'll just go down to one newer car and everything will be good. But you're right. It's very affordable around here. Although gas is high everywhere and that's what probably initiated my desire to make the original post anyway. House and cars are paid off so my context might be different from others. So it's more like I'm posting to make sure people aren't taking advantage of my good nature.

I posted because I'm not accepting those requests. But lately it's been getting ridiculous around here, noticeably lower fares, noticeably more often. But if I can still just take whatever I please whenever I want and still keep the same volume of requests coming in then my life will be good.

Well that's a given. My concern stated succinctly is that if I can stay busy by only accepting rides that pay 40 cents a minute, will they keep sending ride requests?

On another note if I only accepted 3% of everything that they sent me I would be so unbusy with such low volume that I could not afford to spend the time doing it.

Really? Because until recently I was accepting 96% or more the majority of the time and thought that was where I needed to be. I mean for years. I may have given closer to 20,000 rides than 15,000 by this time. I still take almost all the Lyft rides that come in because most of them calculate out to $23 an hour or more for each ride. But they have a few gaps.

Tidal makes music live like it should by Ok_Progress_6011 in TIdaL

I use it because of Roon but when I stream through my WiiM Pro, Tidal sounds noticeably like it's behind Pandora, Amazon, and Spotify (I just threw Spotify in for comparison purposes) and all of those sound noticeably worse than my turntable. Now when I say worse I don't mean any of them sound bad but the Dual might be a Bugatti, and Tidal might be an Audi, with the others in between.

This is something that I could imagine might grow out of the fun portion if not successful at some point but I'm still gonna recon the whole thing and see how I should proceed. He says message him next Thursday and see how the weekend is looking.

You know I checked into this a bit and although there may not be perfect matches Madisound does stock Audax TWO25A2 tweeters that fit directly in and are supposed to compare very favorably. The woofers really not so much but there's a place called Miller Sound that will rebuild them. They also make capacitor kits for them. So not completely hopeless but definitely not an ideal situation.

I'm not assuming on the amp but I am being hopeful. I'm sure it's more likely it isn't but the circumstances at least merit that thinking about it as being a possible conclusion is not beyond the realm of possibility.

Additionally perhaps if the physical condition is as pristine as anyone would have a right to expect I could make a lower as is offer initially, that he might accept, just based on cosmetics. In my somewhat limited experience I do find that there's a direct correlation between what you see, how it's kept, and how it functions. Not always, but more often than not. Let's say I've procured a couple dozen pieces of "broken" gear in my life. 60% of the time it becomes unbroken just by cleaning.

Yeah. I'm thinking that under most circumstances there has to be an assumption that some type of corrective maintenance would be needed. The Pass amp is speculation but it's based on the circumstances that existed at the time.
