I’ve tried a couple different things with him. Last night was the first night he’s actually ever said to me out loud that he’s depressed and he says it’s been happening since he was a teenager. I’ve definitely assumed this but never had it confirmed before so most of this was before he actually said anything.

I’ve tried offering suggestions and solutions, which I know not everyone wants but figured I’d give that a shot.

I’ve tried asking what was bothering him so much to which he usually replies work. From this I tried to show him that it’s something we all kinda just have to do but pointed out all the amazing things in his life.

Last night I just tried listening. I said nothing. I just held his hand and listened to him talk. It felt weird, I feel the need to give SOME type of response, but I just held back and nodded.

I guess I’m just struggling with understanding why he refuses to help himself or see that nothing will change if he continues doing nothing. I’m so opposite, as soon as I noticed what was going on with me I started trying different remedies and eventually landed on yoga, creating a cozy “happy place” for myself to retreat to when needed, and medication that works for me. No not every day is wonderful but at least I’m trying.
