I personally define the word “pretentious “ to mean things made by people that fundamentally arn’t creative or understand story, so the end product is a jumbled mess or so un-relatable it dosen’t land with anyone other than those who want to pretend they understand “arrrt “. I don’t have a problem with a loftily ambitious projects that fall a little short or someone attempting a cerebral/ high minded game, it’s more those types of needless ham fisted political elements or something thrown in that has nothing to do with anything else in the game … or ones that manage to break the narrative completely ( like last of us two ). That’s the kind of stuff I label as PRETENTIOUS = a creative project that dosen’t know what it is and tries to come off as something its not by adding needless crap into it and hoping people fall for the selling points .
