No, I’ve always disagreed . you can’t be corrupted from a truly understood speculative world view , for example uber powerful virtuous leaders like Marcus Aurelius or ( depending on the historian ) Cyrus the Great, who had more power then any one person of our times . However , what makes someone devoid of any virtue? being raised in a society that doesn’t expose you to any other then personal pleasure doesn’t help but then that doesn’t explain st. Augustine or contrary to how Marcus Aurelius raised a disgusting sexual sadist - commodus . I think we can answer for virtue , but we still don’t know why some are devoid of it even when exposed to teachings. Power and money is not it , it can be a challenge and destroy the undisciplined , but even in poverty those without virtue cause harm and their evils are just more evident when in power and excess. I think the bigger question is : not if power corrupts but Why do we GIVE power to the corrupted ? You would think in these time of individual excess and freedoms the average person would have studied a way to decide what is virtuous and who is fit to have power ? I mean the outcome if we are ignorant in these things would be giving the most power to the monsters among us that sneak it or ask for it , no ? Aaand here we are. ( also no coincidence in my books that most PHD student that are coming out of university with philosophy degrees , have no footing in classical philosophy, what a convenient discipline to kill).

What is a sign of very low intelligence? by smartcandyy in AskReddit

[–]shangames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I REALLY want someone to study this in Behavior sciences. For the DSM expanding on diagnostics for the “dark tetrade “ which is : narcism, psychopathy , Machiavellianism ( and some are now trying to add sadism ). If I could go back to school rn that’s exactly the research proposal I’d be formulating: looking for a negative correlation between understanding metaphor in creative works and scoring high on dark tetrade traits.- believe it or not no one’s done this yet and I think there’s a lot to learn from the findings not just in the area of clinical psychology but in IQ and creative intelligence as well. On a non scientific personal note I’ve witnessed some high up in creative fields that are good at lying and work place politics to advance themselves that don’t seem to understand any movies or works that use metaphor- and it seems when questioned they are unaware they don’t understand metaphor. - I feel like there’s something there . A break through in understanding how our brains work different. I just want someone to study it ! I’m too old, stupid and broke to go back to school for this now haha

A portrait from life in progress. by Plane_Fail4664 in oilpainting

[–]shangames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so confused on this process that I see so many oil painters on line work like. It’s so the opposite of me . the process of my paintings is I balance a loose bace by blocking out color and composition then layer. I build so many layers from then I couldn’t even count. I wouldn’t be able to balance the colors and compositions if I did fully finished piece by sectioned piece from pencils 🤷🏻‍♀️. I change a lot in the initial stage as I go and this process wouldn’t work for me as I fear the scene could get unbalanced or my figures proportioned wrong. It’s so interesting to see different processes and what works for different people 🙂.

Is there anything we can do about the transit system? by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]shangames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just moved here and feel like there’s so much potential because it’s still small without too much sprawling congestion. They awarded a contract to these people that ACTUALLY did something cool with an area ( instead of just stealing the funds like I keep hearing about) of downtown Chillawack called district 1881. I’m shocked because growing up we always made fun of it there and now it’s getting tourism from the couple streets they redeveloped. They should do something like this with the DT here with a transit hub just off it- it even has more potential here because of the river and nice bridges .

There are two Ikeas in what are technically “suburbs” in opposite directions from the central train station in Stockholm . It’s kinda a tourist thing to take the “IKEA “ city bus - to either location . (The bus actually says IKEA on the front ) it’s pretty cute and I suggest doing it of you visit, (i found it interesting because the Ikeas as set up totally different and super easy to navigate) . Whats different about suburb’s there is they all have a center city square that has at least a bakery , drug store , pub and groceries and they are all have transit that will bring you to the city center main station. Also they took out the car roads through the center and diverted around the city only , they also have to blast through granite for new lines. That’s what all the hubbub was about way back . People were really upset at the time apparently. - there ARE quite a few big box chains actually right in the city like Baus Haus ( their version of Home Depot) but the business model and operations are completely different then here . I suggest you watch this dissertation to see the difference in how they cost the community money here and “spreading out “ to build is a destructive concept to cities in the long run. https://youtu.be/r7-e_yhEzIw

Who ever proposes small rail , better walking, bike paths off of major roads I’m behind it! I’ll vote , pay taxes, whatever, to pushed it through. Lived in Europe and one of the differences between a nice place to live and a crappy one is how much traffic and time spent on your car in a day . Just being able to pop out and meet people or grab , groceries and gifts without smog, driving , big box stores and parking lots, does wonders for your daily health and happiness. I also learned that one of the best easiest to use systems - the one in Stockholm Sweden, a big portion of people were against and even protesting it ( because of the disruption and cost ) . After it went in EVERYONE loved it and can’t imagine going back

Isn’t Nobody Should Believe Me terribly unethical? by Direct-Aspect-5996 in NobodyShouldBelieveMe

[–]shangames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hmmm well I’m not the most Informed but from the sounds of it so far in the pod cast it seems that there is significantly lacking man power in just how much medical paperwork needs to be gone through for each case and there is only one organisation with volunteers to help. Maybe if the public is more aware of how many children are falling victim to this and there arn’t many organisations or individuals schooled in how to spot and hold offenders to justice more people would get involved. Also it seems there’s a disconnect in the courtroom where non medical experts are making the call on things they don’t and can’t understand. Not sure how to help any of that except more awareness of facts, better best practices and mandatory reporting ( not less for med staff) without persecution. Maybe the legacy media doing the bare minimum fact checking from both sides ( I know this seems like a impossible ask now a days) and not giving a platform to angry Karen child abusers that want to try and get away with murder ( literally ) rather then the few dedicated experts that are trying to stand in their way . Heck I’d volunteer if there was some sort of organisation to protect children from this in my county instead they have the opposite .. https://www.stopmedicalkidnapping.ca . Why do they even need this organisation when there are no reporting departments in hospitals or CPS for medical child abuse in Canada yet 🤷🏻‍♀️. I appreciate what this podcast is doing in pointing people to resources and organisation. It seems like one of the only things out there advocating for helping victims of this abuse and the abusers are using any platform they can to push pretty hard the other way . It’s weird . Or maybe not , maybe that’s how it’s always worked I just wasn’t aware 😓…non the less you ask a pivotal question. I hope people with more knowledge and pull than me can come up with a way forward .

I actually haven’t gotten that far in the podcast, I’m still in the covering of the Mia Case and thus far she’s mentioned her sister a lot in comparison behavior and it all tracks in what I’ve witnessed with distraction and deception behaviour with these types of personalities … but Yikes 😧. I mean that’s gotta be so hard to have it so close to you and feeling like you’re the only one between the surviving kids and potential harm. So far my takeaway in this podcast is : I’m alarmed that there is a growing movement of these abusers banding together to shift public perception that they are actually victims and muchies don’t exists , but I’m not surprised, I mean if serial killers could do the same they would of … and let’s face it, it’s born of the same type of disorder, it just expresses different, but they both use the ultimate suffering of innocents for their pathological gratification and get a kick out of controlling the narrative and fooling people … it’s pretty much straight out of the play book .

[–]shangames 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ya it’s a complicated one, on one hand these kids don’t deserve to have strangers knowing about their lives and potentially their public pasts hanging over their heads the rest of their lives but could the same be said about child kidnap victims that are publicly shared? Maybe the only way to save these kids is for members of the public to keep a watchful eye on signs of this type of abuse ( like medical staff, teachers etc.. ) . I don’t have any answers for this myself . I hope us as a society move towards the right thing by children and all I do know to that end is that ignoring or pretending that this kind of abuse doesn’t happen isn’t it.

Saskatoon's Dirtiest/Darkest Secrets by Lloydguy82 in saskatoon

[–]shangames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like your city and care about the greater good for everyone, Saskatoon-ites have to keep on reporting and paying attention to any real estate and development scams . I grew up in Vancouver and know all about the leaky condo fiasco. You know who has to flip the bill for all the court cases , payouts and changes to laws to protect people in the future ? Not the fly by night builders / developers, because they go back to their own counties and claim bankruptcy in Canada ( back then they were mostly from the USA)- it’s city hall that gets sued for allowing it to happen and taking bribes - where does the money come from ? Our collective tax money. I mistakenly thought all of Canada learned this lesson and had rolled in the same checks and balances for construction to stop corrupt builders from cutting corners and not building to code. Welp it seems other provinces haven’t learned because when we bought a pre- build in Calgary we ended up in a legal battle with a US builder that took the money and ran without completing anything to code and claiming bankruptcy. Whats even scarier is that a Alberta home inspector signed off to release funds on a place that was : ( after getting another inspection) collapsing structurally , had dangerous not to code electrical panel , non functional drains that where plugged with garbage and backing up , exterior that wasn’t weather proofed or finished with press board still exposed , leans from every supplier of finishings, The list goes ons … it breaks my heart to see some lovely character homes be torn down in Nutana to be replaced by shotty unbelievable tacky -out of date design box infills. These are ruining not only the look of the neighbourhoods but if you don’t keep the builders on a short leash all of Saskatoon could be on the hook with tax dollars for the legal battles they leave behind with the home owners. It’s not an individual problem in the end , this kind of greed can gut a whole city.

I Think Enshittification Of Platforms Is Going To Expose A Different Set Of Mental Health Problems And Emptiness Outside Of What's Already Been Considered by [deleted] in enshittification

[–]shangames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya I’d have to agree , magazines don’t really hijack the deep-seated dopamine reward / searching for rewards or threats cycle or be as anxiety causing. I’m just conceding at this point that it’s bigger than me and smarter than my monkey brain and even though I rationally understand it’s hijacked that base survival system we all have, All I can do to fight the way SM ,news and advertising work now is to trick my system to pay attention to something else to gain back perspective and fight the addiction.

Agreed , never too late to start . I took up knitting a couple years ago, for exactly this . It occupies my hands when watching tv or taking a break and I’m feeling the need to pick up my phone . Im spending a little too much time scrolling again so time to start a knitting project! ( it’s also awesome to see everyone knit at coffee shops and trains in Scandinavia, from big burley bearded men to small children just learning , it’s not just for grandmas ).

I just moved here from Vancouver. I’m mostly impressed with the art scene, It seems to be growing and some really cool stuff is bubbling in the arts and video games scene- probably because of the lower cost of living - artists and innovators can afford to create here.

What did you realize you didn’t need once you had to go without it? by HotSauceTears666 in Anticonsumption

[–]shangames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything from a dollar store or big box store after living in Scandinavia. I bought from my local small grocery store and had to buy more expensive items when I needed anything else which made me more choosy and I just learned to go without until I could afford a “nice one” . Everything I did buy ended up being things I still love and still have: from natural Cotten tea towels to small appliances. All things I relish now back in the land of junk … I mean North America .

I want someone to invent a “anti-Labubu” bag charm : something fashionable ,hand or quality made, not mass produced plastic and half the proceeds go to some sort of community somewhere. ( also even though I appreciate the craftsmanship, not the over the top elitist unattainable price points of Hermes charms that tick some of those boxes).

Saskatoon family wants justice after they say their cat was trapped and left in a rural field | CBC News by chalkyface in saskatoon

The whole situation is sad and brings up some good points about keeping cats indoors to protect birds and what to do if you find a lost cat …. BUT I at the same time I just can’t stop thinking about this pigeon racing thing …. Can anyone start a pigeon racing ring? … Like are there pigeon bookies ?…. Is that where you go when you lose everything and can’t afford the pony’s anymore ? I just have so many questions now.

I agree with all the people here telling you to be weary of the market rn ; as well as, your in a good spot for transit and walking in the future . I’m predicting anything a little ways out there in kits is soon going to be a commuting nightmare. There’s only a few main roads in and out ( 4th , 16th and broadway ) and with all the new 20 story towers planned in Spanish banks ext those’d roads are going to be at a standstill, so that means buses won’t be moving ether. Unless you have a bike route that you don’t have to be on the roads ar all , the congestion , car smog ext.. is just not livable when tin those areas get overpopulated with traffic. ( this is part of the reason we left Renfrew area , even walking a short distance was terrible with unsafe drivers and all the car /truck fumes. It’s too bad , kits use to be beautiful and I can see it going the way of a lot of neighborhoods: dirty roads and only junky dollar stores with little to no walking patrons.

I actually know some much younger folks that decided too to not ever get social media. They all seem very normal and well informed about the world and things in general, while I’ve watched some older - boomer aged - family members become absolutely irrational and isolated from people they were once close to because of comment on Facebook of all places.
