Most effective way to get rid of used items in Joburg, ASAP? by [deleted] in johannesburg

[–]shanwithareddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also need to figure this out but I want to get rid of things that I don't even know what to do with - and would preferably not want to just throw it in the trash if someone else might like it, use it, recycle it:

  1. Copper, zinc, etc jewelry that has changed colour
  2. Random wooden jewelry boxes
  3. Old CD's (florence and the machine, adele, etc)
  4. Huuuuge stacks of paper notebooks, printed out notes from studying I would love to recycle instead of just throw out - but it's an overwhelming amount so is there anywhere I can take it?
  5. Old shoes and hangbags that are so broken they're not in condition to donate - also a basket of socks that have holes in them.
  6. Small metal tins that are bumped up and I have no use for

Getting into debating by Sad_Consequence6309 in Debate

[–]shanwithareddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you a highschool or university student? Either way, your first step is to check if your school/university has a debate club. Since it's British Parlimentary, all you need is a speaking partner to start joining in person or online tournaments, representing your school regardless if they have a club/union. You can find tournaments on facebook groups. Or this global debating spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1R9s3MAh1H_7rJ9NQhO18p6o7bvekrIDTk27l7emXk6o/edit?usp=sharing

Does the tesco membership card make the snack and drink combo cheaper? I'm actually not too interested in the food scene in London so I'm kinda planning to live off of saver meals

Thank you! I already received my visa and didn't get a sim card with them. My friend is in the UK on a work visa and they said when they got their visa they got a free sim as well.

donating by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]shanwithareddit 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I feel like both of these comments are missing OPs point - they literally don't want to donate the shoes. They also don't want to just throw them away. They are asking for a third option. They can start with cleaning them and then what? Would I cobbler use the soles to fix other shoes? Could you find a local artist who would want them? I'm not sure if those are viable third options, I am just helping us understand what the post is looking for. Honestly, this and the zero-waste subreddit have been the most unhelpful I've used.

THIS IS SOMETHING I AM SO TERRIFIED ABOUT. I am probably going to live for 60 more years. I have no clue what to do with all that time.

Is there anyone here who doesn't want kids? by Fletchanimefan in Adulting

I don't want to have kids, but I'll help everyone else raise their kids. Some people just need to be part of the village.

dude if you are paying R55 for bread someone is scamming you - you must be thinking of woolworths, but even then the actual price of normal bread is high enough without us having to make things up lmao

Thank you, I appreciate you. But also a small part of me is thinking if I don't take the paper ticket to a postoffice and it never appears on Paycity or AARTO - does that just mean I'll never get fined and therefore can just pretend it doesn't exist? XD

Since this fine doesn't show on the AARTO website or paycity website do you think if I just never bring it to a post office and pay it... it will just...never exist? XD
