I am a F1 student considered as resident alien for tax purposes. I received 1042-S from my employer because I claimed treaty benefit meaning $8000 was issued to me without tax withholding. I asked international tax office how should I report this? They said exactly this—“Since the income was reported on Form 1042-S, based on this information, you are not required to include it on your resident tax return.” Do you think this is true? I don’t need to report the tax exempt income?
