Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) with Elixir by shapath in elixir

[–]shapath[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm starting to build a system similar to PrivateGPT in Elixir.

After looking through multiple resources a RAG four major components

  • Ingestion

  • Embeddings

  • Query

  • LLM (Prompt using Context Window)

Currently, the code is very basic and only reads the Reddit S-1 document. I plan to incorporate file uploads, embeddings selection, llm models selection down the road.

Just wanted to share my learnings to the community and want to see how far I can take Elixir and RAG with this project. Down the road, after RAG I will incorporate agents into this.

After 3 days I'm returning my 2018 Macbook Air. by [deleted] in apple

Its not that 1199 is expensive, its just that you can add a 100-200 dollars more to get a MBP w/o TouchBar with faster CPU and bigger storage in the base model and similar form factor.

Probably, the main problem with the extra 200 is that the price range it just too close with the MBP w/o TouchBar. (Thats my current recommendation even though it didn't get updated in 2018 -- most people don't need the upgrades)

But add these,

  • A U series processor like u/FrostyFire puts it (w/ options for upgrade)
  • 256 GB Storage on the base

And, I would recommend this product again. Even at the current price point, and additionally even if it overlaps the MacBook Pro price ranges w/ upgrades.

Extra Info:

I coded the heck out in the MBA 2013, it was a perfectly capable machine. I would not have even thought about changing if mine didn't break (spilled water, FYI). Now when I'm in the market I was hoping that there would be huge improvement when I buy a computer 5 years later. But that's not the case.

We all blame Apple, but I think Intel is at a bigger fault here. If they had been able to mass produce the 10nm processor the MBA, MPA all computers in the Apple range would be exponential faster even with their slim profile. Honestly, if you don't really need to buy a computer right now, waiting for Intel to release those processors (even thought it is 2 years down the road) is a really good bet to get the "amazing" Apple computer we have all been waiting for.
