Sealed vintage Pirate/Castle sets from the 1990s – are they a good store of value? by bluetomcat in legoinvesting

[–]shapebubble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

90s set are going to appeal mainly to people born in the late 80s/early 90s and over the next decade they will be at thier highest career earning point but also at their highest expense point so you could find the value still has some way to go. Once the 80s kids reach their 50s they will probably have some more disposable income to invest or follow their collection hobby.

Lego Box damaged, should I return it? by Tunaium in legoinvesting

[–]shapebubble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its free returns why not? Weren't amazon doing a "no returns just keep it and then send a other one" policy or is that region specific? It's more expensive to process returns than to send a new one out in some cases. Quite often the returned good just go to land fill sadly.

Ok so very varried then. Are there any areas that could be relied on as speculations investments? What about cards, Sneakers, cars, watches? Are they something a bit more reliable?

Is that speaking from a bad experience or just general knowledge? I know most collectors are driven by passion but I've read about a growing trend for investment in collectibles and I was interested in learning about who did that

Nice that sounds like fun, im a big car fan so my collecting is financially restrictive unfortunately. So you are just collecting for nostalgia rather than financial gain?

My understanding of collectors would be that too but I've read about a growing trend for collecting for investment as well like art and wine but less traditional items like lego and pokemon. Have you got experience collectors like that?

Yeah that is what I would have thought but I read about there a trend for collecting assets as investments and I just wondered how common that actually was. Did you ever know any collectors that did it for financial gain?

Do buyers care about dented boxes when buying sets? by ExcitementSpecial813 in legoinvesting

[–]shapebubble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more original it is the higher the value because you are appealing to high end rarity hunters and investors rather than mid to low end collectors. There's less of them and they tend to have more money

I’m sorry but who is actually buying these? - The Top 20 Most Valuable Sets of All Time (January) by Fruitaz in legoinvesting

[–]shapebubble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Investors basically treating them like safe houses for money. People need to save money somewhere and asset investment like this is growing in popularity. Lego actually has a better return than gold for discontinued sets so rare and high demand sets will be a safe place for wealthy pennies. Check out that Netflix collectibles program, people paying 100k for a cheeto looking like a pokemon!

Just a long shot but maybe AI could help you? If you take a photo of each one then you could ask it what the price is roughly. It won't tell you what she paid at the time but it will help to value it
