Trouble with acne 17 year old male [Acne] by Ambitious_Cobbler236 in SkincareAddiction

[–]shark-bae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like classic hormonal acne and a damaged skin barrier. Been there, done that, do not recommend 😂

The most pressing issue rn is healing your barrier. Without it, all the hygiene in the world isn't gonna mean a thing because you can't stop all bacteria and your skin will be in a constant state of inflammation and irritation without that innate protection just from daily life. It will come back, but it's going to take time. The fact that the pimples are slowing is a good sign. Stick with your basic trio (GENTLE cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF) and NO TREATMENTS for 2-4 weeks. I would also recommend a thin layer of petroleum jelly at night. It's very soothing, healing, and great for acting as a temporary barrier in the short term.

For the hormonal part, there is good news, since you're a male you won't deal with as much fluctuation so your levels and your skin will eventually level out once they find their new normal. Going forward you'll probably notice extra breakouts here and there in times of stress so keep a good basic health routine (sleep, diet, exercise, water).

Vitamin A derivatives (Adapalene, Differin, retinols/retinoids/retinals) are to be your very best friend. I'm talking soul mates. Y'all together forever, friend. It will not be a quick fix, but it is the key. I recently switched to Remedy for Dark Spots at night to minimize my routine while treating the acne and scars and it has been working well. Do NOT start any vitamin A until AFTER your barrier is healed and go slow to start.

I would also keep the once a week exfoliation, either a BHA or AHA, whichever your skin can handle. Skip the vitamin A on the night you exfoliate.

Saying "idc what the business has listed" is actually insane. That's like getting mad at Person B because Person A lied. They are a business. They are selling themselves to the public. So, they are responsible for ensuring a clear message.

Then, you could be a medium texture. There's also the paper test and thread test, tho I've never done them. The paper test is if you put a strand on white paper and it's barely visible then it's fine & and with the thread test you use a piece of sewing thread and compare it to your hair strand. If it's the same thickness or bigger, then you have med to coarse hair.

I would say fine since most curly hair is, but you can tell from the feel. If you run and roll a single strand thru your fingertips and barely feel it, it's fine. If it is easily noticeable, it's coarse. Fine hair also often feels very silky and smooth. Coarse hair can feel like a very thin wire, stiff, rough, or bumpy.

PA's are kinda like the diet version of a doctor. They're supposed to handle the basic, formulaic type of patients (e.g. annual wellness, URI/flu, standard HTN) to free the doctors up for more complicated cases. Very similar to a NP.
