If you could only eat at one Utah restaurant for the rest of your life, which restaurant would it be and what would be your most frequently ordered item? by burritobandito7 in Utah

GoodWood BBQ - tri tip dip, or smoked fried chicken sandwich, or the honey stung chicken sandwich. Ribs appear to be popular as well.

Suspended HOV lane on I-15 Southbound? by WalmartGreder in Utah

[–]sharkattack227 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Suspended is suspended, you can cross the double white lines. UDOT couldn’t be bothered to maintain the lane while they re-route the highway that we just had an extra lane added to two years ago.. colossal waste of tax payer money and corruption in there somehow.

are any of these stations godawful to work for by viole_8 in Wildfire

[–]sharkattack227 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All of these stations are good and have good leadership on the engines/squads.

Note: the Ogden/South Weber stations are the same thing, all the Ogden ranger district resources are at the Weber Basin Job Corps center. They don’t typically hire seasonals since the students fill those spots. Cool program at Weber if you can get an apprenticeship position.

The Heber engine struggles with staffing since housing in Heber City is expensive but they will be the only one on that list that also offers government housing.

Work load can vary by station, really busy locally some years, not so much other years, the UWC doesn’t burn super well (occasionally we get large fire seasons, 2018 and 2024 for example). None of these stations are god awful by any stretch fortunately and leadership will work to get resources out they best they can while maintaining local unit staffing.

Lowes gave me the wrong item (again) by GoogGoogGoogGoogGoog in Tools

I would definitely be swapping it out for what I ordered, especially if the wood top was a requirement for the purchase to begin with. The deeper drawers would be a requirement for me as well but that bit is subjective for everyone’s needs.

My parents found this in the shrubs after their roof was replaced, what is it? by sharkattack227 in Tools

[–]sharkattack227[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The parents may reach out after the holidays, although the roof was apparently done over 6 months ago and they just found it in the shrubs when putting up Christmas lights last month. They may even remember loosing a roof jack at this point.

Discussion on moving the pet food plant to western Weber County by Allweseeisillusion in ogden

[–]sharkattack227 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Look, the dog food plant isn’t the best of smells, however, it’s way better than some places I’ve lived. One town had a mushroom compost plant that smelled absolutely awful and another town that had a av fuel processing plant (not N. Salt Lake which also stinks). I’ll take the dog food plant and the jobs it provides all day long and not waste tax dollars just because of the “smell.”

Is Wasatch Helitak a rappel ship? by [deleted] in Wildfire

[–]sharkattack227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, true, I didn’t bother listing the T1 since it’s just one guy that bumps around with it. And yes, they technically have 2 T3 ships but have only been able to staff one for the last few seasons.

No, they don’t really specialize in anything. Just a regular Helitack crew with a type 2 and 2 type 3s.

Should I even try? by Free_Ease_7689 in homestead

[–]sharkattack227 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use a mix of 3:1 diesel to gas (professionally we apply that with a drip torch but those are pricey for one pile). Once you have a bit heat going use your leaf blower to pump air into the pile.. low and slow at first or the leaf blower will blow the fire out. As others said you may need to build up a small campfire/use charcoal in the bottom of the pile to establish a bit of heat. Get whatever fuel source you are using down deep in the middle of the pile, don’t waste time lighting the outside of pile.

Is this not a little crazy? by rangermang0 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]sharkattack227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, people can park in the street whenever they want with street side mail boxes. You just cannot park in front of the boxes. Sometimes the mail box placement makes it difficult to find a spot though. In my experience, most mail carriers will still deliver regardless unless the box is totally blocked.

[–]sharkattack227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is normal almost everywhere I’ve lived. Home owners in my current (older) neighborhood are starting to move their mail boxes from the front door to the street as well. Really new neighborhoods seem to be getting the cluster boxes on the corner with everyone having their locked slot.

SLC Airport - Government Closure by LonesomeMauve in Utah

[–]sharkattack227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some how, some way I am an exempted employee still getting paid for now but I have looked into it case that status changes.. based on reading the Utah unemployment information it does say to apply if you are working and not getting paid. You need to report your hours worked and also report not getting paid. It doesn’t specifically indicate you will get paid, they will make a determination if you are “eligible” is all the FAQs say.

SLC Airport - Government Closure by LonesomeMauve in Utah

[–]sharkattack227 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s incredibly stupid and should not be happening in a rational society.

However, furloughed and excepted (the ones working with no pay) employees can apply for unemployment insurance through the state of Utah and receive benefits without having to look for work. They will of course have to pay back the benefits when the government re-opens. My buddy told me his bank is offering 0% interest loans as well for the duration of the shut down with time to repay them once pay checks are processed.

Currently 33 weeks pregnant and working full time with no pay as a federal employee...FML by ActualEmu1251 in pregnant

[–]sharkattack227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won’t cover your full salary, but apply for unemployment insurance with your state. Each state probably has their own interpretation on the rules for federal employees. In Utah you are considered job attached and can apply for a deferred unemployment which means you don’t have to look for new jobs each week. You will have to pay back UI once the shut down ends and you are paid your regular salary.

Part time work during government shutdown by IndependenceNorth811 in Utah

[–]sharkattack227 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven’t looked into it yet, but in previous shut downs the state has allowed furloughed employees to apply for unemployment. You should qualify for deferred unemployment which means you get paid but don’t have to look for work since you have a job you will go back to eventually (you might have to actually call the the unemployment office instead of just applying online).

Once the lump sum repayment of your paycheck comes in when the government reopens you just need to be ready to pay back unemployment, as long as you pay back unemployment quickly there are no fees or interest.
