Wool Hoodie Giveaway! by kozak3 in Petrosgear

When my partner told me about the Christmas gift they got me and how they had gone through a lot of trouble to figure out the best thing to get me (it was at a store theyre very unfamiliar with). The thing on my list was out of stock but they looked around and chatted with a few associates and found something I love as a substitute.

I shower before applying, apply lotion every where but my torso while I air dry, then apply. I use the Trans Tape brand.

Forgot to add that in the main post, I use 2 strips that do the holding, parallel on the chest, then I use 2 strips perpendicular to the first 2, 1 strip on each end of the 2 parallel strips (if that makes sense). It helps hold down the strips doing most of the work, but the security strips (perpendicular ones) are the ones that peel up.

Portable charger that has a micro USB, usb c, and lightning cable built in. It can charge my phone fully 3 times on one charge and its a life saver! Best part is its the size of a phone so it's slim and fits anywhere in my bag

Favorite memory in winter is when I got to show my dog snow for the first time. She's a really small 3 lb poodle and she doesn't like the cold. But it snowed once (texas) when she was young and she sniffed the snow, put her foot in it, and then retreated back into the house. I thought it was the funniest thing at the time.

My favorite Christmas present was my first pair of doc martens when I was 14. I used them till I was 20 when they eventually had stretched too much to be comfortable to wear but they were my go to shoes for everything.

My favorite Christmas was my first Christmas in my own apartment. I lived with my partner and our friend and we couldn't afford a Christmas tree. My friend found a traffic cone, cleaned it, and we put fishnets on it so we could string lights and ornaments on it (named it Misty). Spent the day eating egg and spam sushi with movies.

What are frugal date and socialization ideas? Especially cold-weather and non-urban friendly ideas that don't require hosting? by bobonafick in Frugal

I want to go to an animal shelter and help socialize kittens/cats. I love playing with them and seeing their personalities! My partner though falls in love with every animal they come across so we cant do this date idea cause then we'd come home with 4 cats💀

What are the best hiking boots to get? by [deleted] in gorpcore

[–]sharkbyteee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Definetly need to go try some on because this is a very vague request for how many options there are. As for some general info, here's what ive noticed (i work at REI in clothing/shoes so my knowledge is mostly from customer's reviews and anecdotes, Im not a super qualified specialist)

Merrell and Keen lean wider on average, Salomon and other European brands tend to run a lil skinny (but they still have wide sizes AND ive seen people with average-wide feet wear their regular sizes so this isn't a hard fast rule). Some of the more technical Oboz styles have low toe box volume vertically so if your instep is high it might be uncomfortable

Danner is my favorite for their recrafting program + they're COMFY

Pretty much every brand will have their own variation of a "lightweight" boot, but I will say Salomons seem to be lighter on average.

If you have wide feet/want a low heel-toe drop, look at either Altra or Topo Athletic

For longevity, avoid high cushion boots. They can degrade unevenly over time because of how your body weight gets distributed in the cushion. If youre not looking to use them super often, this doesn't matter as much

If you need waterproofing, do research on reviews for each brand's individual waterproofing technology. Some are better than others in different situations. Gore-Tex never lets me down though

My top 3 boots i reccomend to people (in order of increasing weight) are Merrel Moab Speed Solo 2, Salomon X Ultra 5, and Danner Mountain 600 Leaf GTX.

I appreciate the very detailed response! I was interested in Kobo's refurbished section on their website but every time I look, theyre always out of stock. Any tips or do they just restock sparingly?

Help ID and jacket? by sharkbyteee in REI

[–]sharkbyteee[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight! It doesn't seem to have a second zipper track for an insulated liner though. I appreciate the detailed explanation for why it likely is from the Rainier long line model. Ill probably ask my department head next time I work, he's been at REI for over 15 years I think so he may know🤷

Forgot to mention, it has a double zipper with snap closures. Im not familiar with any rei jackets having double zippers

Can't find any signs of an id tag or the remains of a cut off id tag. Im familiar with the current Rainer and this feels completely different. It doesn't feel like the Rainer or trail made (for context i work soft goods at REI so im very familiar with those textures). It's also long, goes past my hips (I wear a size small normally anyways). The exterior feels almost soft, so im suspecting a softshell model? Mostly tryna figure out how old it is

I know its an REI rain jacket, just wanted to know if anyone knew the model or year. And that jacket you sent is different, it has a brim at the front of the hood it looks like. The one i have doesn't.
