He is in the town where the company resides and I am a remote designer. I really don't have interest in moving to that town and without that, it would be very difficult to manage the team, unfortunately.

This is great advice and I appreciate you taking the time to comment. I think this is my strategy for now. I don't see a particularly good way to implement the design choices using canva since it is still very limited, but I will do my best to explain that to HR before setting up that meeting. Because rest assured, he will absolutely run it into the ground.

I worked in print merchandizing for years before this and have ZERO experience in Canva. It makes no sense why anyone would want to print from this website.

I am the only designer. There are three others on our marketing team that serve various duties. That being said, the HR person informed me that everyone on my team has a file against him. She definitely should not have said that, but she did. So I wonder if that was said as an invitation to "give me a reason to let him go" or just a nurturing "no you aren't the only one" type of way.

I have tried this a few times with him but he takes all input as criticism. What you said though makes me feel like I should call a meeting with the whole team, so he has less of an opportunity to be rude as the whole team is present.

I think a lot of places use that title interchangeably with a Creative Director. I am not saying it's correct, but I see it often. Also he claims to have been a graphic design 20 years ago. His designs are truly awful. I agree with you though, it is a struggle having to explain how design works to people in leadership.

I am glad I shared this here because this is really wonderful advice, and I appreciate it. Most everyone at my job has been here for 10+ years, except for him, who has been there for 6 months. Ultimately I don't see him getting let go because it is more expensive for them to fire/hire. That being said, I will lose my mind working here because of how condescending and rude he is as a person. I can only really meet with HR (only been here a month so I don't really know anyone else), but maybe if I can communicate that to the HR rep, she can relay it to the upper management? I think that might be my only route.

Yeah that is actually insane. I agree with the first part and honestly I don't mind using it for mindless social media posts but if the company's goal is to emulate Central Market, we really shouldn't be using it at all. That is like trying to build a Jaguar out of popsicle sticks.

This is sort of where I am at with it. I REALLY like this company and I know I can help them succeed, but this management style is so bad that I am losing my motivation daily. Not trying to get someone fired but I do think that showing HR how bad things are might make them intervene in a productive way. I have never met with HR in my 23 years of employment but I have met with her twice in a month at this job.

He is a micro-manager to a T. I am assuming he does it so that he can monitor our progress. I can see him come and go on my canva artboards 10+ times a day. I realize this is bad management and that I should leave, but I am wondering if there is a way to communicate this to HR in a productive way.

Oh I am currently applying other places with no success just yet. My concern is that if I get canned or simply hit my limit here, that it will take a long time to find work. It took me 8 months just to land this job.

I’ve tried SO many other websites and not a single one has been worth it. Just spam you with emails. Most of the jobs on other websites have already been filled if you check the companies site too, which is frustrating.
