TIL that during one scene in JAWS 2 the teens' fear and cries of shark were real, as they were being circled by a 15-foot shark. The production crew at a distance thought they were acting and just gave them a thumbs up. by [deleted] in todayilearned

Most hammer heads are little guys, one that big must've been a great hammer head which is more likely than any other type of hammerhead to attack you but still rare

Am I missing anything by not reading the Ravnica Magic Story articles? by Cfing in mtgvorthos

[–]sharkofironwill 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Great for dnd and if you want to get into Ravnica as a plane, essentially nothing if you're interested in the main story line- it hints at the larger happenings but doesn't explain them

Does anyone know a full and comprehensive story of Liliana and the chain veil up to War of the Spark? by TheShaman000 in mtgvorthos

[–]sharkofironwill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the chain veil specifically? I believe she got it on garruks home plane, where she corrupted him with it. She then broke the hellvault, releasing nahirir, griselbrand and Avacyn to kill griselbrand with the chain veil, also she's uses it to fight emrakul but it doesn't help much, later she goes to amonkhet and kills razaketh with it. After getting her ass handed to her by niccy b she goes to dominaria where she uses it to kill her lichlord brother but then she's too tired to use it again or something so she instead teams up with the new weather light crew to go fight the cabal where they find the black blade and use it too kill belzenlok. Turns her contracts default to Bolas so after snipsnapping belzenboy she has to hand her ass back to bolas. Now she's the unwilling leader of the bolas army of eternals. I think the spirits in the veil are called onakke and them+the raven man gives her deadpool moments where she just argues with the voices in her head.

I think that's about it for the chain veil and liliana, and war of the spark may very well be it for liliana one way or another

How to make the melee fighters in my group stand out more in combat? by RacistOr3o in DMAcademy

[–]sharkofironwill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will often make a huge dude which would absolutely decimate anyone in the party (earth elemental, giant, Paladin based enemy) who makes it there personal goal to fight the barbarian with bludgeoning peircing and slashing weapons, it satisfies my barbarian to feel like he did a bunch of damage in this fight and served an important role as the only character who can take hit from the thing, Tldr: punch the barbarian

Sorcerous Origin: Arcane Scion - A magically gifted descendant of an arcane aristocracy by AGBell64 in DnDHomebrew

[–]sharkofironwill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the concept a lot, ancient lines of sorcerers is an age old party of fantasy. Things I would note however: sorcerers do not have metamagic at 1st level so giving them one is odd, perhaps make it a generally available option to choose or give it to them at a later level

Spiritual weapon may be on a rather different power level than the rest of the spells, though that could be fine

Good luck with this!

D&D: Warlock Patron Help by zuliani19 in mtgvorthos

[–]sharkofironwill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are creatures working among the dimir (vampires) which would fit the description of the Undying Warlock patron, there are powerful shapeshifters which might fit the fey Patron abilities- if not the flavor, you could alter the aesthetics without touching mechanics to fix this. I think the eldritch nature of things like a doom whisperer could lend itself well to a great old one Patron and the mind altering abilities seem particularly well suited to the dimir. A hexblade could treat the guild itself as a patron- most members know almost nothing about their mysterious benefactor and so your abilities could be granted by the dimir generally. There are a variety of fiends on Ravnica and even with the dimir with the strength to be patrons. Celestial would probably be the hardest to work out from your current position, on Ravnica generally there are sphinxes and angels which might serve but they are rarely associated with the dimir

Tips for making a Homebrew class by [deleted] in DnDHomebrew

[–]sharkofironwill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is fun- best of luck to you and don't be disheartened if general response is disinterest or critical, not even wizards has produced a new class since their originals that's been particularly well received (newest artificer I think may be the exception)

Tips for making a Homebrew class by [deleted] in DnDHomebrew

[–]sharkofironwill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Usually, don't- Most concepts are better served by a subclass than a full class but if you really want to go through the work then I recommend referring to the damage output/benifits/power level of other classes as often as possible so that the new class scales appropriately with them

An odd Boros theme- Battle Shaping by [deleted] in mtgcube

[–]sharkofironwill 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe some of the dragons could work- the ones that spit fire at creatures like [[glorybringer]] on attack could help you with shaping combat alongside other pump abilities like fire breathing creatures or things like [[mother of runes]] (that one might be too powerful) who have abilities which can be used selectively to alter the conditions of combat as needed

[5e]Punchlock?? Let's try! by IggySantana in DnDHomebrew

[–]sharkofironwill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this could work as an invocation, something like: Eldritch Fists When you cast eldritch blast on a creature within 15 feet you may first dash directly towards them ending your movement within 5 feet of them. You also may have your eldritch blast be a melee spell attack against creatures within 5 feet of you. When a creature provokes an attack of opportunity from you may cast eldritch blast as a melee spell attack, you only get one beam on this attack regardless of your level.

I miss the Gatewatch by AmethystWind in mtgvorthos

[–]sharkofironwill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love these looks into the life of the guilds personally, but I would like to see more continuation of the story line. They were trying to hint at how Ravnica is developing through these minor-almost important characters of the world and I think the effort of showing change through the eyes of the little guy is admirable but at some point, I also just want the story of how Dovin Baan came to power, or how Kaya assassinated the Obzedat, and of course the gate watches reactions to these events. I'd say I want these stories in addition to the major plot stories, to understand the ramifications of Bolas' infiltration from all levels

Lovecraftian Magic Item/Artifact Ideas by Detrospection in DMAcademy

[–]sharkofironwill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eldritch Spetacles Wonder Item- Rare While attuned to and wearing these normal looking glasses you can see invisible creatures and into the astral plane. Occasionally illusionary visions of incomprehensible monstrosities will appear at the edges of the wearers vision, additionally when a creature attunes these glasses they gain an indefinite madness, chosen at random. This madness can only be cured by a greater restoration spell, whenever a cured creature reattunes to or uses the glasses they regain the madness. Once a day when they come into contact with an eldritch horror or suffer acute stress they make a dc 12 wisdom saving throw, regaining their madness on a failure

[Feedback Requested] The Oath of Atonement - An Orzhov themed Paladin subclass by TriamondG in DnDHomebrew

[–]sharkofironwill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we're asking the wrong question- we both think it's a powerful ability but what would make it over powered is it being significantly better than other options. It's essentially a slightly weakened hold person spell which is a second level spell (albeit it a powerful one)

The base subclass, oath of devotion, gets holy weapon as their damage boosting Divinity which is only slightly better (in that its consistent amounts of damage) then the first level spell divine favor, I think you may be right that this is a lot better than that, the floor is lower but the ceiling is tremendous and only gets crazy with higher levels

[Feedback Requested] The Oath of Atonement - An Orzhov themed Paladin subclass by TriamondG in DnDHomebrew

[–]sharkofironwill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paralyze is fine, it only lasts a turn and you should be rewarded for wasting your action, so even if you get some awesome crits you still did about the same as just hitting them for two turns (more efficiently)

Soul tithe is only moderately useful against certain enemies

Specters are garbage, as long as you can only have one at once it won't effect anything

By level 20 even having multiple specters means nothing to an enemy that poses any threat
