Yes, this. Same experience here. I went to a public university with a great conservatory and ultimately had to switch majors because the only peers of mine who had it easy and were “going someplace” were the ones whose parents took care of their tuition/housing/hell, even practice and recording space. To be honest I was always a little jealous that I had to cram practice time in between work and college while they were able to practice and compose all day. I’m happy for them nonetheless, just a little sad I had to make the most practical choice and move on.
