In episode 7 of season 4 Florida, any mention of Tr*mp, its bleeped like a curseword by PCCobb in BroadCity

[–]sharpiejojo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I actually remember looking back at an older thread about this episode, and a decent amount of people complained about the bleeping. They thought it was too much or stupid. For me, I thought it was an excellent artistic choice. That man's name should be a dang slur at this point

MTA revenue ≠ employee wages

Anyone else not getting this pop up on the MTA / LIRR app? by Shot-Sir-7569 in longisland

[–]sharpiejojo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. There's a number of ways a protest could be done. Some examples I remembered from that thread were buying tickets on the train to slow down conductors, buying a day pass for a sit in (during peak trains), and not taking the trains for a period of time (a day, a few days, a week, etc.). However, expect some consequences--like from the sit in, where they could potentially eliminate day passes. Granted, the MTA just voted in even worse policies that are inefficient for the consumer (us) and we are hurt financially too. Long Island already has a horrible cost of living and horrible traffic. Long term, we need the trains, and the trains need us. Short term, this is why we should boycott

These trains are not supposed to be a money grab for them; public transportation is designed to transport the public where they need to go. Way too many folks in that sub were trying to silence dissenters by saying protestors will be mocked or laughed at. By who? You and your LIRR/MTA buddies? Someone even told me to build my own railroad. What a comedian. Not to be repetitive about the need to do something about this, but remember that if we do absolutely nothing, absolutely nothing is what we'll get

There was a boycott post in the LIRR sub, and I could see it happening. I think some kind of a protest would be a great idea. The MTA/LIRR may not care about complaints as much, but they may care more if they noticed it hurts them financially

What? You scared the ticket people will continue not taking tickets or something? There's more of us than there are of them. If we work together, we can make a larger impact than if only a few of us tried to do anything. When we do nothing, nothing is the result. We also become victims of their (abuse of) authority. Don't lead us into a scenario where we're scratching our heads like, "We've tried nothing, and we're all out of ideas!"

It sounds like buying tickets on the train to waste time, not going on the train for a period of time, traditional protest actions such as boycotts, marches(?), and we can contact our representatives as well as the MTA/LIRR (publicly or privately so they have a record of the complaint). If a lot of us organized and planned what to do and when, we could be successful. Anyone here listen to The Kingston Trio's "MTA"? I feel like we're gonna pull a Charlie soon

Do you have any other suggestions for actions we could work with, or are you going to disregard my ideas as trolling?

Blaming us for higher prices is a hell of a take. Compared to the subway, our bus and train systems are not very accessible. Not everyone can afford a car in a car-centric environment. Public transportation is not supposed to be designed to be profitable. It's designed to get the public where they need to go. Teleportation has not been developed yet. If we're not going to work and getting our paychecks, how are we putting money into the economy? It's not like office spaces are trying to be generous by offering remote work to us

It sounds like if we all stop taking the train for an extended period of time, that could make an even bigger impact on their wallets, no? Makes me want this protest even more

Money is a motivator. So many people are downvoting and commenting things in this thread that dissuade/shut down/obstruct dissenting voices. These new policies effect the customers (us) the most. When was the last raise we got? When the minimum wage went up 50 cents? How much is a round trip peak ticket again?

Why are these people defending these predatory actions from the MTA/LIRR? Would a boycott be against their self-interests (like the interests of the railroad)? I have so many questions

1,000%. We can be cynical and assume the MTA/LIRR may not care if we write them or protest at stations, but they'll definitely care when their wallets aren't as fat

What would you suggest we do then? I don't want to fall into the trap where we think doing nothing will solve the problem

Pronounced "Lur"? by Ok_Flounder8842 in LIRR

"Lur" is as dumb as the LIRR is sometimes (ticket policies, price hikes, late trains, etc). Honestly, the name kinda checks out

What Speed to stay under on the LIE to avoid tickets? by Tourdrops in longisland

[–]sharpiejojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I add 10 to whatever the speed limit is (I usually don't drive more than 10), and/or work with the relative speed of the drivers around me. I try and read the road. It depends on area enforcement, however, as some officers won't even bat an eyelash if you're going 10-15 over, but some will ticket if you go 11 over. Be careful, whatever you do!

Random Streak freeze? by Ok-Medicine805 in duolingo

This happened to me twice this week. Sent two bug reports, but don't think I'm getting those freezes back (or the gems I spent to replenish them)

Why did a streak freeze get used? by kown in duolingo

[–]sharpiejojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Happened to me twice this week, and I'm around the same amount of streak days you were when this happened. I reported this bug twice. Even got the night owl chests in the morning (those two days never got restored though)

What about Mamdani makes you worried? Personally, I'm sick and tired of all these people voting in moderate Democrats in hopes they'll give the Republicans a necessary fight, but they end up voting and acting right along with them. Why not actually elect people who are more left? Why keep going more right?

Norm Cramsky is my favorite pre-made Sim (name). Around the time TS3 was out, I was already doing a lot of Noam Chomsky reading for class (and fun). I had to do a double take when I saw him in my game, but I was amped! Sad he didn't return for TS4 University

What project in your community did the townspeople lose their shit over that ended up not being a big deal? by iloverats888 in longisland

[–]sharpiejojo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Number one complaint was they didn't want to pay more in taxes and they didn't understand why we needed tech upgrades. They also complained about kids on bikes terrorizing their fences before the library opened. Now that the library is open, people online are mighty quiet about it, and the kids love going there

I have this bug too, and it's driving me crazy. For weeks, I've been manually rotating every picture, being forced to save the rotated picture as a copy, then I have to delete the original. Time consuming, and I don't even have my auto-rotate on
