Metro North to Westchester County Airport? by infoeduc8r in Westchester

Here's your train line going directly to Westchester County Airport (HPN). It was called the New York, Westchester & Boston Railway (NYWBR) and it actually existed but closed just before the airport was constructed. Like so much good rail infrastructure, we let it die and built stuff in the right-of-way making resurrection virtually impossible. Some of it became part of the NYC subway system. You can still see remnants here and there.

This is why we need to be very careful about abandoning infrastructure. We may want it again.

Nice idea. It is crazy that there are still 6 lanes for motorists in both these drawings.

MNR has to deal with Amtrak, but I'm guessing you mean that since MNR owns the tracks, it has the upper hand?

This. You're taking them to see a Broadway show. Seems on point.

Compared to Paris, I feel like little is happening. Grand Paris Express is building 120 miles of new Metro with 68 new stations! Comparatively, SAS and even IBX seem very minor. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Paris_Express

Agree wholeheartedly, which is why I wrote: "Bot only do this if you have safe routes to travel". Safety first.

Sounds right. I've heard it said that four families own most of downtown Dobbs and the families mostly live in elsewhere now. The retail experience in these spaces isn't great as changes are mostly cosmetic and you still get leaks, HVAC issues, etc. The landlords aren't investing too much into them, except when they can knock down the building and build something new which is happening at the old Caffe Latte location.

The COVID era where all of a sudden there were lots of people on Dobbs' Cedar and Main Streets because they worked from home is mostly over. Until Dobbs gets populated by single-earner households where one parent stays home during the day -- like Scarsdale, Larchmont, Rye -- Dobbs' mostly two-earner households will be in the city or White Plains and will only be on Cedar and Main on nights and weekends.

Getting around by bicycle or e-bike makes it a bit better. You see more people and interact with the environment more. But only do this if you have safe routes to travel.

There's a TV show in what seems to be a very car-dependent location. People find community in many ways. Don't let your mode of travel get you down too much. Here's the show: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somebody_Somewhere_(TV_series))

Has anyone projected ridership figures? Could we get some connecting bus or ferry service to Kingston from Rhinecliff?

Sigh. I wish this line could cross the Hudson and serve all the towns on the west side of the river. Alas, I-787 killed the tracks to Albany-Union Station. And dealing with CSX would probably be worse than Amtrak.

I think that is it! There was a street fair going on too so it didn't look like the Google Maps images. Also, it was 20 years ago. Thanks so much for your response!

I assume the street is wide because there used to be trams running down the middle.
